You can use the 750 on a 550 and vice versa,  but you will need to customize the spacers

Do 750s and 550s have different length axles? I thought they were interchangeable.

My 750 had a 550 swingarm, brake drum and wheel on it when I bought it.

The 550 swing arm is a not uncommon modification some people put on their 750s. Its longer and so handles better in a straight line and on slow curving roads. The shorter 750 swing arm is more difficult to handle, but ultimately better for tight, fast turns.

Ive bought a 750 drum which fits on fine, to upgrade from the 550 drum.

Thanks Guys,
I was just concerned about whether there is a difference in the rim only width.....anyone know the specific difference in inches?

Thinking about possibility of putting 550 rim on 750....or would it be significantly too narrow?
Thanks

Steve

A 750 rim will work fine.

550 rim on 750 is too narrow for the tyres needed

I think diameter is the same, width of brake shoe is wider on the 750 , than the 500.

500 and 550 models all came with a 1.85" wide rear rim while 750 models all came with a 2.50" rear rim.

Only spotted one for an F-bike, but it's a 2.15 as you show.

I never knew K-bikes had wider wheels.

Alan, 77-78 k are different because it's a 17x2.50.  69-76 are 18x2.15.
If it works good, it looks good...

Thanks gents,
That’s the info I need.
Looks like 750 rim on 550 might be an upgrade.....but 550 on 750 a downgrade (my plan).......back to the drawing board.

You are right not to go with the 550 rim. Even the 2.15 rim on the 750 is pretty narrow. The rear Lester on my 750F is a 3.00" rim. Look around and see if you can get lucky and find a 750A wire wheel around. It is a 17", so you'll need a new rear tire, but it is a direct bolt on and is an aluminum rim, so a nice upgrade weight wise. The matching front is also aluminum and a direct bolt on so a pair is a great pickup.
