Just bought a new bike....Redline
« on: February 17, 2007, 07:38:39 AM »
My kids are both riding now and I am not going to follow them around on foot.  So I did some research and found a killer deal on a Redline Proline Pro BMX racer.  I got it for $150 which is an awesome deal and barely more than I would have been paying if I bought one at Wallmart.  Anyone else into these?

I'm really excited about it and hope it becomes another big hobby of mine, cause it's exercise and fun at the same time ;D

Well holey crap.  I had a wicked flashback when I saw Redline.

I have (yep - still around somewhere at my uncle's place) a GT Pro and a Mongoose Pro-Class in black chrome (Eric Rupe signature bike).  I have Mike Buff white z-rims, a Gallindo handle bar with the plastic cross-bar, a pink GT layback seatpost, a Kuwahara stem with the bolt that allowed the front brake cable to pass through for helicopters etc. etc...

Used to be into racing, and then freestyle back in the 80's.

This is my nephew in some of the old gear :)

my buddy rode a haro 1b... that was the sweetest, lightest, chromiest bmx'er there was.

Holy flashbacks Batman, NBL # IN 38 R here,

I ran a Webco Pro with red Z rims The brother ran an all Aluminum Race Inc. He was #37 R

My best friend scored a Factory GT ride after he qualified for the Nats. This all took place in the early 80's when a table top or a 360 made you king of the local track if not your world.

I raced BMX starting at the age of 10.  My ride of choice at the time was a Redline 500a.  It was lightweight, simple, and would go as fast as you could make it. ;D  After two years of racing BMX and taking the bumps and lumps, I discovered something better.  MotoCross.  I gave the Redline to my brother...  but he prefered GT.  He was a flatland/city trickster and never raced BMX.

I still have a few sets of UFO grip disks (in checkerboard pattern) in the garage.  I had them on a few of my sport bikes just for giggles.

Oh... and cracking my nuts on the landing over a table top still ranks as one of the most painfull experiences of my life.

Man oh man.  I remember when Haro made their first frame.  Was THE first 'freestyle' frame and featured twin top-tubes.  I also remember my first Oakley 3 grips - the ones with the flared ends.  They were yellow, on a black/yellow Norco I had.

My first BMX bike had Skyway Tuffwheels.  I remember when they came out with their teardrop tube frame for 'areodynamics'.  Aluminum was as exotic as titanium became.  PK Ripper, Quadangle frames...  3 piece cranks costing $300 back in 1983.

BMX Plus and BMX Action, Radical Rick...  Living in the middle of Canada, we didn't have the same sort of scene as on the west coast or the US.  I raced for a while, but never super-seriously.  ABA vs. NBL, Stu Thompson... it's amazing how the mind stores stuff from 25 years ago so vividly but I can't remember what I ate yesterday!

My big claim to fame was bunny-hopping.  I cleared 13 kids laying side by side when we did a show at our school, at the end of our grade 9 year.  Teachers had a fit when they realized what they had allowed to happen on school grounds.  We walked our 1/4 pipe there on skateboards.  Probably a 1/4 mile hike with it up the streets.

Nothing has changed - just the size of the toys.

Back in the day I rode a diamond back.. when they were nice. Then about 5 years ago I picked up a Volume and must say for a street bike it was amazing. After a year of cruising downtown kansas city I realized I just didnt have the love for it. Last year I picked up a Gary Fisher Pargon mountain bike, its a 29'er and boy will that beast roll over everything. After a year of riding I must say unless I get hurt to the point I cannot ride I will enjoy mountain bike riding for a long time to come.

UGGG only if I could get my CB550 to run  ;D I would probably really enjoy that as well.
