fork brace mounts. ;D

Thanks guys. ;D

Today I sprayed the inside with bedliner and tomorrow the new boots will be here so we can put the front end together for the last time.

How did you manage to drill and tap the brace for the screws coming in at an angle to the fork brace? That would seem to be quite a challenge in my thinking.
It looks great! Is it a Tarrozi fork brace??

It was! That's why I needed four hands to do it. it took several tries of taping the fender on and mounting the wheel to make sure the fender was in the right spot. First I had to mark the top of the fender with a Sharpie the outline of the brace after taping it into position. Then I had to figure out where the holes needed to be in the fender and drill them. Tape the fender back on and mark the fork brace through the holes in the fender. Take it all apart and use four eyes to make sure I was drilling at the proper angle, tap the holes and hope it all works.;D The strip washers are a must and it bolts up pretty solid with stainless button head screws. Yes it is a Tarrozi fork brace.

We got some more done today and realized we still need a front master cylinder that will work with the bars. Most likely it will be a remote reservoir type.

Today I worked on refinishing the gauges. I repainted the black part even though I am going to use some period chrome covers because they were pretty crusty. I also painted the mounting cups black that I had previously painted silver. The down side is I painted the wrong speedometer cup. I needed to paint the one with the trip meter knob hole in the back. :o Oh well, one more to sand and paint.;D I also hooked up the emission line and the airbox and plenum drains

I've painted those instrument covers before, 1 pair the engine color and one pair the tank color.... Since they are in line of sight 90+ percent of the time They just have to be right. I agree, right is chrome. I tried some of that liquid chrome paint on a headlight bucket once, and it looked allot like chrome...for about a month. Then it started getting that dull oxidized look. I'll be repainting it black that next spring. I can't help but wonder if it could have stayed chrome-like if I shot a clear coat over it after the chrome paint, but not doing that again. Nothing takes the place of factory chrome.
Your project is coming along nicely.

Well the master cylinder came and it's total crap so We ordered a Nissan remote reservoir master cylinder that will work with the bars. In the meantime we routed and installed the speedometer and tach cables and assembled the rest of the brake system since I finally finished polishing the speedometer drive.

Today I Installed the hand controls and adjusted the bars. I ended up moving them in 7/8"  for a total width of 26 1/2".  I also got the headlight bucket wiring all plugged in and a nice little nest made for the headlight plug.

Today I sorted out a short in the headlight circuit. It was the high/low beam switch grounding against the control body. I also soldered in a new headlight plug and remembered how to wire in the chinese taillight. It's yellow/ground, red/brake and black/taillight. I might have to try and get two more front turn signals to put on the back since I have a set of red lenses, more light back there wouldn't hurt. 8)

Today we started the bike on just full bowls of gas. I'm cleaning out the tank one more time while waiting on the mirriors and front master cylinder. They should be here on Monday. I also got he horn button working properly so now all electrics work. We are looking at at week of crappy weather so I'm not sure when I will get to test ride it.

I took the bike off the table today and juggled some bikes to put up the next victim, an 84' VF1000F. I am still waiting on the mirrors and am halfway through remaking the center stand stop for the 550. It's still too wet out to take it out for the first test ride. Maybe Friday or Saturday. 8)

Thanks, I got the center stand stop version 2.2 done and painted today. It's hard to see but there is a rib along the bottom on the left side so it doesn't bend by the bolt. I also picked up 10 more gallons of ethanol free gas to get started riding it on. ;D I may get to test riding tomorrow. I rounded up some temporary mirrors off of the GS1100E to use until the new ones get here. The right mirror holds the front brake reservoir in place. Once all of the details are done I will try to get some glamour shots to post. 8)

I'm still waiting for my new main jets to get here so the 550 is just sitting. I'm going up 2 sizes on the mains and pilots. So far it's done a couple of laps around the shop. The rear springs on the Hagon shocks seem to stiff, going to have to try and get softer springs.

Just a heads up;  You might want to keep an eye on that Center stand mount / clamp.  I've seen a number of similar brackets made like that to stop the stand from going up too far, but it ends up bending & or braking the mounting clamp off the frame. They just are not sturdy enough to handle the forces applied by the stopping tab.

Update, we got sent the wrong pilot jets so once again waiting for the correct jets. Dime City Cycles wouldn't exchange the stiff springs on the stainless Hagon shocks for the right ones but Hagon stepped up and are sending the right springs for free. Great customer service from Hagon.  ;D

Yesterday we got the correct jets, installed them and got the carbs back on. It's running really good now. The springs are supposed to arrive today. Once I get them on it's ready to test ride after some more rain cleans off the roads after the snow storm.

My 550 with  Hagon shocks is definitely over sprung in the back for my light 135lb weight.  Could you provide some info on your contact at Hagon.  I looked at their website but it did not appear they offered retrofit springs.  It is the last detail on my bike I have not attended to. Bike looks great by the way!

My shocks came with 26kg springs and Hagon sent me 16kg springs. I weigh 130lbs. I contacted them through their website contact info.

I finally got the carbs dialed in with the new jets. Had it out today and did some hard laps on my test loop and I am happy with it now. I may put the stock fork springs back in, the Progressive brand springs are pretty stiff. I have 16kg springs on the Hagon shocks because I only weigh 130lbs. I figure it out this weekend, tomorrow it's supposed to rain and then be nice for a while.
