1978 Hondamatic Hawk
« on: January 08, 2021, 11:02:34 PM »
Stumbled upon a 78 matic hawk, mileage is around 21,000 site unseen but told starts, needs TLC. Based off that and a few pictures what's a rough estimate on worth based on opinions? Currently their asking 2k.

For a non-running parts bike with no title, $1/CC is a good start. A valid title adds value. Starts and runs adds, riding adds, registered and on the road adds, needs nothing ads to that. After that it's between the condition of the bike, the seller, and how far you're willing to go.

Is $2000 a good price, that's not such an easy question. I'd say if it's a rider with papers in good condition, probably. I've seen members pristine bikes on the twins sites go for less, sometimes.

Are there any of the same model for sale within 200 miles to compare to? 300 miles?

Well theres a manual hawk, same year, 14k miles going for 1500 close to the sellers location. 2k seems a little steep, i paid 1500 for my 78 750A that's in amazing shape, and was completely gone through prior. KBB and take this for what you want has them going in "good shape " at 1100 ish. Just trying to find a starting point i suppose without offending someone.

Depending how much you want it I'd say start with saying (over the phone) the highest you can go is $1500, family emergency or unexpected bills are easy excuses if needed.

If they want to show you the bike after that bring $1500 and another hundred in your other pocket just in case.

Sellers always hope to get their high asking prices, if they have no wiggle room, and you could take it or leave it for $1500, leave it.  400As have a narrow audience, ask them again in a few weeks. But don't wait until stimulus checks come out...

Another indicator of a high price is to see what other bikes 2 grand will buy right now.

In good condition, good running needing nothing, those are $1200-$1500 bikes
