Test fitted the carbs today. Playing with the manifold orientation got the ends facing up +2 degrees from horizontal. That seems the correct angle to get the airbox to line up nicely on its mounting holes.

As soon as that is set correctly, the carbs will come apart. The bodies and bowls need vapour blasting to look really good.

Carbs and airbox test fit.  Airbox lined up perfectly with the frame tabs. Carbs off and stripped down, ready for vapour blasting.

Both original side covers had a small crack. Ground the back side and repaired them. Here’s the look I’m going for (assuming the Paintless Dent Removal guy ever returns my tank!).

Seat pan and bits ready for primer and paint. This pan is much thicker than later ones. Didn’t break a single “pointer” when pulling the old cover. Not a spec of paint on the top and extremely little on the bottom!

Red foam? ;)

Thanks Denis, yes PeWe. I snapped one up about 6 months ago, when Yamiya was “in stock” for a few days!

Yesterday I laid the foam on the pan and had a look at the cover. Not entirely sure how it’s suppose to go over the massive foam…… Will give it a try when the paint is fully dry in a few days.

Too HOT to tackle much today! Brightened up the tool kit and bagged it! Tool tray has a fresh coat of paint and installed too. Baby steps.

Today I carefully inspected the replica seat cover I have “in stock” for this project. I’m using the original seat pan, chrome trim strips, and a Yamiya “red foam” kit. The cover I have just seems much too small…. I compared it with photos of the Yamiya cover (lots of them on the web page for this item) and mine is not from them. Bit the bullet and ordered one of theirs to compare.

It would have been much easier (and probably cheaper) to order one of their seats initially, but I was determined to “rebuild” mine. Why do we needlessly complicate our lives?
