My replacement K0 fork tubes seem a bit oversize. Watch out for that when tightening the top triple. I can't draw the D washers up tight.

Don, I have never seen any where you actually can draw the d washers tight.  If they are captured, you have way over-torqued.  That is why I never understood what the big deal with these has become.  What was Honda's purpose of installing them?

I think it wasHonda’s attempt to prevent a ham fisted mechanic of over torquing the pinch bolts leading to cracked triple tree clamps from fatigue from the jolts if they could torque them closed to begin with….

Agreed. I have several broken ones, a couple done by myself, believing you were supposed to draw them tight.

Don…. I found the same thing last time I used a set! Where did you get yours? I think I went to CycleEx. My originals are not bad, I may reuse them.

I've actually had a "Rhino" top triple that wasn't busted, but the gap was so tight with no bolt in it that I couldn't fit a D washer in it! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I had to check my K2 with US rhino. Yes, the D washers sit loose, rattling.
I doubt the fork tubes are too wide. They should be tricky to fit the trees then. I put a screwdriver in each opening open them a little more to ensure no scratches in the chrome when assembled it.

It has tubes from cyclex 2013. I later ordered a set from davidsilver uk that had same wrapping around them. I think it was a Korean company. I see same wrapping from German sellers too.

Can the earlier stock tubes be thinner at the upper part?
I measured old Honda tubes from 1974-75. Same diameter.

That washer must be a stopper for muscular truck mecanics?
The later version has a thinner bolt here, M6, not M8 as the earlier. Probably to stop the guys with 1/2" socket wrenches.

The purpose was to protect the clamp, the D washers are to thin.
Two bikes came with D washers and broken clamps.

I'm thinking my fork tubes were from 4-1 or one of the other ebay suppliers. Probably china made. Forks by Frank were not shipping back then.

Is "Forking by Frank" still in operation? I bought some 2" over tubes from them 20 years ago, was very impressed. ;D

Yesterday I was looking at my fuel tank. It’s a true wrinkle tank, with four clear indents for the carb tops, in the bottom panel. Somewhere here (years ago) I remember reading about wrinkle tanks without the recesses.....

Anyone have more details? Thanks!

Early sandcast tanks do not have indent
Later sandcast tanks have the indent, the change gave throttle cables more room.

Correct. Also, the early ones had larger capacity by two litres. Apparently there is a 2 dimple tank version as well. So Honda went from no diplme to two dimples to four dimples.

Interesting...... mines’s pretty early, #1250. It clearly has the 4 dimples.

What’s the date code? Yours should be double wrinkle tank like the red one

It’s too early for a VIN plate or date code. Tank looks identical to the red one. I’ll take a picture next time.

The date code is underneath by where the rubber absorber attaches. Near the side closer to the seat. Where you see all those little indentations.

Usually starts with a 4 followed by some other numbers which relate to the anniversary of the swearing in of the Japanese emperor.
