Yes! It’s a beast, and pleasantly different than all my other projects..... today I noticed the front disc is such a small diameter that the brake pads are only about 60% in contact with the disc surface. Either the caliper needs to be closer to the axle centre (very unlikely), OR I need a larger disc. Looks like it came off a go cart. Mmmm.

Also been checking out “Hensley Performance” (Gary Hensley). Based on the KZ1000 carbs, the engine is likely closer to 900cc’s than 736. The original owner told me it has “alloy rods and big pistons”. Could not recall the details.

I can’t see any of your pics. Have you id’d the wheel, disc, or caliper? Is it a hurst airheart caliper? The make different sized rotors.

Is that a dual disc hub? I’m noticing 6 bolt holes on the opposite side. That looks like a hallcraft hub. h/a rotors should fit, and are still available!

Reported the problem and it’s been fixed?

Finished up the tune up and put all the electrics back. Added a few fuses and did some clean up. Original tail light bracket painted, new tail light (repro) and back together.

Thanks Tom! Here’s a “bling” shot. All the chrome from the headers back, is clean and polished (and there is lots). The switchbox now matches the red on the rest of the machine. The footboards have disappeared and are replaced by the original Amen pegs. Found a reproduction tail light and repaired/ painted the bracket. All the hardware that was painted black was stainless, so I knocked off the paint and polished them up.

This switchbox was raw aluminum. Considered relocating it under the carbs, but decided to keep the unit “as built”. The red paint helps it disappear a bit! Added a couple of fuses and cleaned up some over heated wiring while it was apart!

M/B ....... Here is a picture of front brake. have not dug into it yet. Do you recognize it? Think I can find a larger diameter disc? The caliper can’t be moved closer to the axle centre, but the pads are not fully engaged.

New tail light and “fresh” lic. plate mount. My red Tremclad rattle can is an excellent match. Note that even the sprocket nuts and locktabs have been chrome plated! Nothing held back by the original builder!

Just had to reuse the “bullet” hardware on the lic.plate. Crazy stuff.

I can probably machine an adaptor for bigger rotor, need to know bolt pattern and offset.
Maybe look for a used rotor off a dual purpose bike , then we can build the center carrier..

Frank.... good idea! I was looking at it today, thinking along those lines. You may have noticed the caliper mount is “clamped” to the two bars and could be moved up a bit (away from axle centre) allowing some extra flexibility on the disc diameter.....

There is a bike “bone yard” (Cycle Salvage) not far from my farm. The guys usually let me prowl around in the back. When the weather improves, I’ll go see what I can find...... it’s a very thin disc, with almost no offset.

Polishing the diamond, I like it. I like to pay homage to the PO's and just improve their bike except when their work has a major negative effect. (My opinion though)
My K2 had +6" forks lowering blocks and a hog rim. Handlebars like if you put your hands straight forward and close together with your thumbs up I didn't even like moving it around the shop. I got some cb400F bars for it, sorry Dick.

I agree! Must be a lot of preload on those springs! I think I’ll leave them alone for now.

There is no dampening. You will get more pogo than you’d expect. Some love them, and some hate them. It’s a matter of preference.

I cant say it was a bad ride.. i cant remember it ever doing a pogo or continue bouncing.. i put a lot of miles on it.
I have done 5000 miles in a month, and over 800 kikes in a day on the one I had.,
Now some of the other plunger frames, have way more slpp, and things moving around as you insert axle..

My P&P girder had no Poggo effect, I did take my brothers 650 Kaw with his springer for a ride, and yes you know that poggo effect. A friend of mine also with a custom 750 springer, also did not like the poggo effect. I suggested to do what Harley's did to solve the problem ( See 1990 Harley softail/springer model). So even if yours is a girder with springs, you may also go this way to damp the bounce.
