Brake upgrade. The stock brakes on a Yamaha FZ-09 are okay but not great.

The stock front rotors are 298 mm:

The upgrade consisted of Galfer 320 mm wave rotors, Spiegler steel braided brake lines (front and rear), Brembo 19RCS radial master cylinder, new sintered brake pads, caliper spacers to accommodate the larger diameter rotors.

One more upgrade. I swapped out the Bridgestone S21 tires for Dunlop Q4 tires and installed 90 degree valve stems for easier tire pressure management (easier to connect and keeps your hands from getting burned by hot rotors). Sticky shoes!

Very Nice Don! Curious what the $ to reach this level of track prepped bike is to go racing? Campaigns race bike budget also is something that I don’t have the means to do…

No real shakedown yet. Just a few test rides down the street and back from the shop.

That's like publicly disclosing how much you spent restoring your CB750 or CB550.

I installed some race seat pad material to cover the portion of the seat joining the tank. I also made a discovery: in upgrading to the Brembo 19RCS master cylinder, I need to reinstall a brake switch sensor. For the auto-blipper function on the quickshifter to function on down-shifts, the ECU needs to pick up a signal that the bike is braking. I just received a Brembo plug in brake switch (from OPP Racing) to wire back into the stock wiring harness.

Here's the seat pad material applied to the "gap" between the seat and tank. I am also planning to apply some thinner padded grip material for my knees to grip the gas tank.

I purchased a Brembo microswitch that plugs into the bottom of the Brembo 19RCS master cylinder.

The bottom of the master cylinder has 2 mounting holes that the sensor just plugs into.

Since the supplied wiring was too long and the existing wiring was set up for different connectors (blade connectors), I shortened/tidied up the wiring and installed new bullet connectors. These connectors also connect into the auto-warm up button (mounted on the clip on bar) which warms the bike up from a cold start to operating temperature.

Install complete, I took it on a test ride and the autoblipper works great.

Thanks for the nice comments. My painter did the paint in trade and I ended up getting a much better paint job than a single color.

Thanks. Yeah, the bike has lots of angular body lines. The tail cowl is a little bit like an insect stinger.

I installed some tank grip material. I had previously used some seat pad material to bridge the seat and tank (and keep it from getting scratched up), but it was on the thick side.
So I ended up using Tech Spec's seat material which has some give to it, so that you can apply some pressure with your legs/knees under braking and in cornering. Tech Spec makes a kit with thinner material, and I used the shapes as a template for the thicker material that comes in a sheet. It covers a little bit of the painted lines, but I can live with it.

I rode the FZ-09 at Willow Springs Raceway this last Sunday (11/28). There was a suspension tuner on site, and for $50, they adjusted the suspension every two sessions and dialed in the forks, shock and steering damper. By the afternoon, I was using all of the tire edge to edge and feeling very comfortable on the bike. The quickshifter and auto-blipper allowed for clutchless up and down shifts without unsettling the bike. By far, that was my favorite mod. The bike had plenty of grunt. More torque than a stock R6 with a little less top-end. In other words, I had plenty of power on tap that I still couldn't use, especially since we were on the more technical Streets of Willow track.

I'm looking forward to my next track day to build upon a great base set up.
