  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Years ago I had an offer to buy a Neway valve seat cutter kit, in pristine condition, but not knowing enough about cutting/(cleaning up) pitted seats, I declined. Now I'm thinking I could use one, but I need cutters that'll do both my K's and my F heads? Does anyone here know the kit that I need, and can give me a part number, and/or a supplier? I've got a K3-6 head here that looks great, except for a couple of lightly rust pitted seats that I'd like to clean up and use, and I'm sure I can use it for more projects down the track? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I do have some Neway cutters, left them with engine builder buddy...i nedd to check if he used them. I think hecwas going to try on Honda 2 valve heads.
A guy I used to hang out with , did used them on Harley XR he was tuning. Pretty sure he said they would iften do it during the race day, or weekend, so it mustbbe quick and clean..
I think you need to develop  a twist form and release motion to use them..

I had trouble finding the correct pilot guide to fit the sohc valve guide. Some cutters are two sided for the different seat angles. That's about all I know.

Most of the kits I’ve seen come with a variety of guide pilots, so not too fussed about that, just need the part numbers if anyone can find them? ;D

I think its a matter of matching valve size to cutter range..

IE a 45 degree may cover  from 7/8 to 1 1/4 ... that sort of thing..

Thanks Frank, I might email Neway and tell them the range of valve sizes I’m going to be using and ask them if they have a “Kit” I can buy? ;D

I have a few of these I bought years ago . They are good for cleaning up an old seat but did not work very well when I tried to cut a new seat for a larger valve . There is a kit for multivalve engines that should be ok . I just bought a 30 , 45 and 60 degree cuter in the size I needed it worked out much cheaper .

Thanks Simon, which bike did you buy the latest kit for, and from where? ;D

I bought them to do a laverda 500 engine about 15 years ago . I must actually do it at some point before I die . I bought them individually off eBay because the kits were expensive . Had a quick look around though and found they do a kit for Japanese engines

That is a magnificent looking kit Simon, I'm just trying to decide on which internal organ I can sell to raise $1500 to buy the set? I do love tools though, so I'll have a think about it........ ;D

1500 dies sound like a lot. I have a few cutters, need to make a pilot, not sure if they are big enough fir 750, but they were free..
Terry..... do you even have any internal organs left in there ?

i borrowed my brother's Neway set for the 400 head.
I didn't expect any of the posts to fit and they didn't but I machined a few different sizes for small engines.
The carbides are adjustable and cut very smoothly.
The 45 degree side fits the valve pocket but the 30 degree doesn't. :(
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

There are a few sizes of cutter body , for bikes the series starting with a 1 are normally small enough .
While not exactly cheap I would love that set . Over here that set costs nearly twice that much . There is talk that one day we will have tariff free trade with australia  and the USA , I will buy a lot of stuff that day !

I bought one 30 and 45 and second cutter 60 degrees.  Used them on Red's head.  As far as I remember the pilot is expanding to fit tight in the guide.

Thanks mate, that seems like the more affordable option. I wish I'd bought the kit I was offered many years ago, it probably would have been perfect. ;D

Thanks mate, that's very generous of you! I'd be happy to pop for the shipping each way, but I'm leery about them getting lost in transit, so would rather buy a set. If you want to sell me yours, I'd be happier to do that? Regardless, thanks again mate, that offer of a loan was a pleasant surprise! ;D

Thanks so much mate, I googled "Prokop" and it seems to have many meanings, so is "Prokop" your name, or one of the other several options for the word "Prokop"? ;D

Prokop is my name, comes from St.Prokop.  St.Prokop was a monk and one of Czech saints, notable for plowing with devil as his monastery depicts on the ceiling.

And that's the useless information for today  ;D ;D

Ha ha, I've got a mate called Alex Polachek who told me the story about how he and his family defected to the west in the 60's when he was a kid by crossing from Czechoslovakia into a westernised neighbouring country (can't remember which) by foot, climbing over mountains by night, and hiding out by day, then eventually ending up in Australia.

It kind of reminded me of the Von Trapp family in the "Sound of Music" movie. It must be hard to listen to US (or any western country) folks whining about "Freedom" when you've come from a country where freedom is not an option. I bet you're happy living where you do now. Thanks again. ;D
