CB500 Carb Woes
« on: June 04, 2021, 07:21:07 AM »
Opening up my carbs for the first time was an adventure - I'm new to this. I was surprised to discover that one of the posts that mounts the float on my #4 carb was snapped, an extra hole drilled below it and it was wired back together.
Does anyone have any experience using epoxies like JB Weld to fix this sort of thing?

These linkages were also toast on my carbs, does anyone have a source for them?

Thanks!

These usually break when someone gets a bit aggressive trying to knock out the float pivot pin.... Guess how I know that? I JB Welded it in an emergency and 24 hrs. later rode on a week long trip. It held for a few years and finally let go last Fall. If you do the repair make sure you slide the pin into place as it sets, to ensure the holes are aligned. THEN START LOOKING FOR A NEW CARB BODY.

Contact member Jim F; he's the one that does micro welding repairs on broken posts.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I made those thin metal pieces from alloy for my carbs but there is a woman (believe she’s in the UK) and you can get in touch with her through the CB500/550 Facebook group. Her name is Julie Seal and she makes those pieces.

After searching for a bit I decided to just make my own, thanks for the tip though!
