LED turn signal issues 74 cb550
« on: June 19, 2021, 12:22:10 PM »
Hello all, first post.

I have replaced my oem indicators with some motogadget pins.

I have wired them up exactly how the old units came off but im not getting any light from them at all.

I know i need a new relay and a diode to get them working properly, but i thought plugging them directly as the stock ones were i would at least get a solid light or something?

The old ones that came off didnt have a ground wire, im assuming that the ground was the fork shroud. So i plugged the new black grounds into the free ground plug in the headlight. Is there anything i am missing here? All other electrics including rear turn signals are still working fine.

Thanks

You only need a diode if both light up when one side is selected but both bulbs ignite.

If your headlight bucket is fiberglass, choose a different ground. Maybe use the horn ground location? You don’t disclose where exactly you installed the new Pins, so it’s a bit more difficult to visualize a solution.

You were spot on. It was a ground issue. Got them both working, put everything back together and now nothing works haha. I think i may have drained the battery as i get the neutral light for about a second and then it dies out. Thanks for your help

Correction on post above.

Came back to it an hour later with a multimeter, battery measured fine.

Tried indicators. Both perfect. Switched it off, turned it back on… nothing working.

So strange!

Load test the battery. You might have an internal short in the battery.
