I could be wrong but I think the intake and exhaust tappets are supposed to be adjusted to .002" and .003".  You may want to double check.  That's what it says in the specifications section of this site.
...wow, perhaps i should be checked for dyslexia...
you are right, i just checked my manual again.

The honda shop down the street from my house has individual feeler gauge blades for this very function,
I think motion pro makes them

Yeah, I just bought a pair.....much easier to use than the hand bent ones I was using.  8)

hmm, once i used the correct gauge, it really wasn't to hard.
in my case (since i knew they were all too loose), i set #1cylinder to TDC, loosen lock nut and slide feeler gauge in. Tighten Adjuster till the gauge won't slide anymore, then back off a hair till the gauge moves, then double check, and tighten the nut while holding a screwdriver on the adjuster (so it doesn't move). Double check with feeler gauge and move on to the exhaust side of #1 cylinder.

i'm trying to remember that off the top of my head (and i just woke up). With the #1 Cylinder at TDC, you should be able to check the intake and exhaust of #1, Exhaust on #2, and intake on #3. With the #4 cylinder at TDC (rotate the crank 360 degrees), you can check #4 intake and exhaust, #3 exhaust, and #2 intake.

uncored the exhaust was pretty quiet, but right now it's too loud. I personally don't mind it, but i have a feeling the neighbors wouldn't be to happy when i warm it up in the morning

How do you adjust the cam-chain tensioner?
i couldn't find a detailed procedure.
i know these are noob questions, but i've never had a CB750 before, and things are done a little.... different, than what i am used to.

A bent feeler gauge will go in there.
You've got to make sure they are open.
You can wiggle them with your fingers.
--won't budge if they're not open--also gauge won't go in there.

i should be checking these with the timing at the "T" mark yes?
i made this out of a feeler gauge, and i can only use it on the first and last cylinder. 2 & 3 are blocked by the frame.

decided to try and dremel a banjo bolt to fit the caliper
turns out, it works good!
i screwed a steel nut on the bolt before i started cutting it to clean up the threads after i was done.


so i go to install my brand-spanking-new line and i can't get any fluid to come out...
open the master, theirs fluid in there.
take the line off - the master isn't pumping anything. Looks like it could use a rebuild
now for the questions

1.) How do you adjust the cam chain tensioner?
   do you just undo the locking bolt and it springs into place cause mine doesn't seem to do anything.
2.) what is a good aftermarket Master Cylinder? or perhaps one of another bike that will fit (and is better).

Lots of good used modern master cylinders on e-bay.   Think mine came of some mid 90's model.

UPDATE
Just got my new (used) supersport tank today.
It's not in horrid condition but it isn't pretty.
it has 2 decent dings in the side with creases, so once again i am out chasing down someone to take them out.
the inside has slight rust and was shipped with gas!
...it reeks, and wont come out of my skin - my experience tells me it's old.. and i smell

the idea is to completely strip this one, polish the sides, and paint the top strip black.
but now i'm thinking of sand blasting the tops strip - just to make it stand out.

Sorry the updates have slowed down a bit - i've been super busy trying to find a job, going out of town, etc etc.

right now i'm waiting for a lever to come in for my new (old) master cylinder off a VFR 800

decided to start prepping the frame to make the seat.


i used aluminum (duct) tape to cover the frame, and i cut out some cardboard for the rear section. I need to grind off the brackets where the tape is missing.
I plan on laying the fiberglass directly to the tape for the seat base.
after that is cured i am going to cover the pan in the tape and put expandable foam on the rear section to form the 'hump'.
once i am happy with the form i will cover it in tape and lay fiberglass directly on top of that.
once that has cured i will remove that piece of fiberglass and start on the upholstry pan - same process.

the idea is once the 3 pieces are made the 'hump' will be hinged and lockable to the seat base for storage.

Dude, just pull one off a newer bike.  Hella cheaper.  I got all my controls, clutch lever and master cylinder off of a 05-06 GSXR for $15-ish bucks off e-bay.  They even came with clip-ons that I turned around and sold for $10.  My brakes were great, no problems.

well shoot - just went out and played with the bike a little.
off the centerstand while pressing on the rear there isn't much clearance between the tire and my "shelf". and i'm sure i will get more load while riding over bumps or through dips.
looks like i'll have to make it a two-piece tail section. So, no storage.
oh well, makes it that much easier i suppose.

yeah i have a set of small CRG bar-ends that came with my Monster, but i like the mirrors i have on there now.
I will use those as a last resort. i'm thinking if i can find a brake master cylinder with the mirror hole on the mount i'd be set.
