78 CB750K / Glass Fuse sources
« on: June 25, 2021, 06:16:14 AM »
Looking for a source for replacement glass fuses for a 78 CB750K.
The stock fuse box has a 5A, 7A, and a 15A main fuse. Problem is I can't fine these replacement fuses. I've tried auto parts stores, e-bay, amazon, and McMaster.com . These are a short stubby glass fuses that measure , 6mm dia. X 20mm length .
All I can find so far are 5mm X 20mm (to loose in clips ) or 6mm X 30mm (fits clips but too long, and fuse box cover won't go on.
Any suggestions on sources for these?
Thanks

I've replaced the fuse holder on 2 bikes with Hondaman's ATC "blade-style" box:

I bought some packages from a German seller on Ebay 7 years ago. Same here, impossible to find that size, 25mm long.

I picked up some spares from Carpy's last time I placed an order for other parts/tools. He keeps the 5A, 7A, & 15A in stock. Price is steep.

You must have them somewhere over there?
If not, order from Germany to keep the original fuse design ;)

Both my CB750's have got relays and additional hang fuses for the larger loads as headlight and ignition. My K6 has louder horn via a relay and separate fuse

I did not find 5A, only 7A and 15A.
Here from same seller and possible to ship in one package. I did when I ordered at least 4 packages of 5 each, 7 and 15A.

If you'll get electrical issues, do not waste several fuses in the garage during fault trace. Repair with a few strands from a wire, attached on outside with help of tape where not in contact with fuse holder until fault found.

I picked up a bunch of these years ago, you can find ATC fuses in most convenience stores.

Out of desperation, I spent a fiver on one fuse and it was the only correct one I could find.  I've since thought sod this and swapped out for blade type.

MikesXS sells 25mm fuses, 10, 15, and 20A, for about $2 a box.  At least you could get the 15A cheap that way.
https://www.mikesxs.net/yamaha-xs650-25mm-glass-fuse-15amp-pk-5.html

AGX fuses are only 0.4mm longer than stock, but they may be the wrong type because they are all fast I think.

Does Honda use fast or slow fuses?

Important that headlight and rear light have smaller fuse than main fuse 15A so bike will not stop totally dead if headlight or rear will get a short.
I had a H4 bulb that shorted once.
Cheap bulb.

If using relays, separate hanging fuse near battery is used.
The stock 7A and 15A fuses for controlling the relays.
Earlier bikes have only one fuse. Fingers crossed for no short at all! ;D
