I was looking around for a way to replace my chewed up tank latch and ended up finding this post about the Quik-Latch:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,165975.0.html

It's a bit buried, so I thought I'd make a proper thread for it so it'll be easier for others to find.

Before:

After:

I swapped out my chewed up gas tank latch with a quick-latch button. It’s pretty cool.

Here is the exact one that I used:

I’m not exactly sold on the way it’s currently attached to the tank, I’ll figure some else out at some point. If anyone here has any ideas, please let me know.

I cut down the bolt about 20mm in order to fit.  I just used a hacksaw with the nuts left on under the cut.  Once I cut it, I used the nuts to smooth out the thread.

This is what I tried first.  It was about 3/8" too high, so I used the technique in the previous thread for now.

I ended up sandwiching the clip between the two large washers.  It was a bit tricky to get in, but actually in the end I was able to install and remove it all as one unit.  Just have to get the angles right.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone.  If you have better machining tools than I, I'm sure you can figure a better way to attach the post.

Thanks for the reminder Kenny, I completely forgot about this. I'll add these links to my k8 build thread so I won't forget.
