72 350F tank paint scheme
« on: September 04, 2021, 02:56:13 PM »
Hi Everybody,
I have just put my bike on the market and someone pointed out that the paint scheme on the tank isn't right.  It looks like the 350 twin paint scheme, but the tank is definitely for the 350F, with the petcock on the left.  The tank does not look repainted and the colour is an exact match with the side panels.  Also, the paint scheme is similar to the twin, but is one colour while the twins are two colours.
The bike is an early model, built in June of 72.
Has anyone ever seen a paint scheme like this on a 350F or can anybody recognize the tank from another model?
Not sure how to post a picture so the CL ad with photos is here. https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van/mcy/d/vancouver-1973-honda-cb350f/7375313939.html
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Jan

Never seen a CB350/4 with those tank graphics. They are similar to a 350 twin but not the same.
Plenty a pictures available with a quick search.  https://www.google.com/search?source=univ&tbm=isch&q=1972+honda+cb350+four+pictures&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiIz46aqubyAhUZdysKHZ7cDEIQjJkEegQIBxAC&biw=1517&bih=730

Definitely a 350F tank, but definitely not original paint (at least not that I've ever seen or know about...).

Easiest way to answer your own question is to look up CB350F's from 1972 on the web and your answer is there instantly. That is a repaint of the original tank as the factory colour and graphics were completely different as shown below.

This is a 1972 CB350F as unrestored and restored and repainted and new graphics.

Hi Everybody,
I realize the paint scheme is wrong and doesn't match the images on the net.  Believe me I've searched pretty thoroughly.
My question was, has anybody every seen a tank like this on a four?  Could it be that a few early bikes had a different paint design?  Has anybody seen a tank like this on another model?
The thing is, the tank looks original.

It's not. Yes, it is a 350F tank, no, the paint is not original. No other bike used the same tank as the 350F.

Well I've had another look at the tank and yes, it does look like it has been repainted.  There are some nicks in the paint around the welds at the front and you can see two coats there.  I thought that the factory might have put on two coats originally but it seems that the second coat must have been put on later.  Very well done though.  The colour is exact and the gloss is perfect, and no overspray at all around the filler.
I have no idea why it might have been done.  The tank is excellent inside and there doesn't seem to be any repairs.  Another mystery.
Thanks for your input.

Your add said the engine was 'rebuilt'. Did you put either new rings or pistons in it ? Seems some of the people here who try it ends up with a 350 that smokes a lot.

You have the correct tank that has been repainted and a 350 twin stipe added. Very unique. No they didn't come with the twin stipes.
You should change you ad words from original condition to repainted and rebuilt to save problems later
