Need Machine Work for '74 XR75, Can't Find a Shop
« on: September 20, 2021, 10:32:52 AM »
Hi guys.  New member here and thanks for letting me join up.  I have a '74 XR75 that needs machine work: valve job, cam bearings, cylinder bore and new piston.  I have not been able to find a shop that has the small tooling required for this bore and also have not found someone who knows how to deal with the pressed-in journal cam bearings.

The local shops here (central Calif) either don't have the small tooling or don't know how to deal with the cam bearings.

Can you guys recommend anyone who can do the machine work on these engines?

Thank you in advance!  Pete

I vaguely remember your engine having a bolt-in camshaft holder which is where the camshaft bearings are:plain bearings which are part of the casting of the 'camshaft holder' part# 12210-116-000(unavailable including the stock camshaft)where the camshaft rides in.
Do you want to consider someone custom fabricating a set of plain bearings for the camshaft to run on inside that 'camshaft holder' ? I ask because someone over at megacyclecams.com could possibly know.
I've spoken with Barbara over there before;she's the owners wife and holds that business together:call at the right time of day.. she can help you,if you let her 'tell you all about it' and take 'all her advice'.  :D
