Cam Shaft Holder Question
« on: December 06, 2021, 08:02:18 PM »
This is from a cb350. One of my camshaft holders looks like this. The other one has a clean machined recess around the oil hole. Idk what caused this, or if it's just how it came for the factory. I also have a pic of the cam shaft in the corresponding area. I'm reassembling the engine now. Does anyone know if I should be concerned about these parts or should I just put it back together?

Do you have a photo of the area in question?
Perhaps arrange them in order to let us see the parts in context

This is a common issue with these engines. I would try to find a better holder at least, that one appears worn.
I believe the other holder with the recess is supposed to be that way.  I think.
You might take look over at https://www.vintagehondatwins.com/forums/ for more info.

The two that I see on ebay have a smooth machine recess, like the one I have for the other side.

Also I am a member of the hondatwins.net forum but it is pretty much dead at this point. I will try there as well.

Everyone left hondatwins after they sold it and they migrated over to vintagehondatwins.

Imho, that camshaft looks a little rough. Perhaps not unusable but still rough.

Oh I didn’t realize that! Well that explains the drop off.

The camshaft does have some scoring. But it’s the kind of part that’s hard to replace with better without getting NOS. Same with the cam holders it seems.

Yes, seems like I have read about those being sleeved or had needle bearing installed. But of course both of those would require machining.

I've spent this morning doing research on cam shaft repair and it seems like a nightmare. Delta Cam is local to me but I have read some negative reviews on here so far.
