Tested to failure. ProjectFarm on YouTube did a similar thing with Briggs & Stratton engine in a mower quite a while ago...his was very crude...

Maybe too early in morning for me but wouldn't this engine have about 0 compression yet it runs.

 It may be sealed well with the same approx volume and squish area to run but I will say that on the road it probably would not be much of a heat sink to cool well if its taken out at all.

How much heat does that plastic need to endure?
Seems like it would fail from heat.

I think heat is what caused the plugs to fail and pull out of the head. They came out with the threads full of plastic... I guess they could have failed from fracture of the plastic but given how the dome was burning I think it was heat. Likely Lexan used for the compression dome and plugs, either that or acrylic which is readily available. Lexan would be my choice for a stunt like that.
