Any interest in 3D printed starter solenoid mounts?
« on: January 10, 2022, 07:27:54 PM »
While isolating I decided to pick up 3D modeling and printing.
One of the first things I made was a starter solenoid mount for my cb650 for use inside my electronics tray. I’m wondering if anyone would have any interest in them once I’m happy with the final product. I’m on my 3rd revision and will be printing out a second version in the next day or two. I have nothing to sell sir offer yet so I didn’t want to make a classified post. I’m pretty sure this solenoid was used on other models as well.
It’s a nice interference fit with the solenoid body, a locating notch on the bottom and a peg that goes though into the fuse compartment for a solid lock, and provisions to capture bolt (idk how to describe it professionally lol you just some 6mm bolts in and is got a recessed socket to hold the heads)

While on the topic if anyone has any ideas for bits to be made let me know. It’s been fun to make and print stuff so far

If you printed some molds for silicone rubber mounts.  That would be slick.

Do you mean the molds of the factory rubber solenoid mounts? Like this or something else?

Would need to be keyed two part molds with tight tolerances to prevent silicone or other molding compound you use in the mold to not glue the two halves (or more pieces of the mold) of the mold together. If injection of your rubber compound it would need a fill and vent sprue into the cavity...
FWIW...

I'm interested in one of each so far, save me having to make something to do the job.

The factory rubber holders are still available new from Honda, I don’t really see any reason to create a reproduction

Second printed version Is done, and it’s much too tight a fit to get the solenoid in so I have to tweak that some more. Probably the locking pin so more

Oops, I should have looked.  Still interested in the printed part with the bolt (peg) in it, I already have a spot for that.
