That looks like one of my custom Transistor Ignitions!
Back in 2006 I built a whole series of 'custom' units for riders who wanted a fancier box. They came in red, green, blue, gold or black.
How big is the box? I use smaller ones today. That one looks like it was painted?

Woot woot! Very cool, something I don’t have to purchase and can still use!

It looks like it was red anodized originally and then spray painted black.

I’ll have to look in your book as it was paired with a set of Accel coils. Can’t remember if that is a good or bad combination.

Now, THAT is funny!
:D

When I built the first 'run' of these gadgets, I seriously thought I'd build maybe 100 or so and it would fizzle out like it did in the 1970s. Back then, points cost $3 so no one cared, and the near-$100 price tag was too steep. Funny how electronics got cheaper and points went the other way?

But...I NEVER thought I'd be making thousands of them over decades of time... :o

I’ll have to look in your book as it was paired with a set of Accel coils. Can’t remember if that is a good or bad combination.

You should be able to wash off the black with acetone or lacquer thinner - the original color is anodized into the aluminum.
These boxes can fire coils all the way down to 2.6 ohms primary impedance. But, the power available on these bikes is the real limit: the ACCEL coils are 3 ohms (most of them, anyway) and with the headlight ON while riding in town (especially if halogen) those coils draw more power than the bikes can make. That's why I came out with the Resistor Pack: does the bike have one of those bolted onto teh front or rear coil mounting bracket, too? This reduces the coil's power consumption enough to let the bike live with the coils.

Didn’t see any resistor pack. I’m replacing the Accel coils with an aftermarket set that resembles the OE coil pack.

I tried to open your box up and see what was inside, but you sealed it up really well. I couldn’t get the ends off so I put the screws back in and called it a day. I’ll use it with the new coils. I need to check the points and see how they’ve performed with your ignition box. I’ll take a pick tomorrow.

IIRC, I used the black rubber sealing panels on those boxes so high-pressure car wash sprays won't penetrate them. They are not as naturally water-resistant as my regular boxes. Be sure to NOT loosen the little screws on the [bottom of] the box, those hold the heat-sink tabs of the transistors to the case for cooling.

These boxes all have Lifetime warranties, BTW...
For a while my original financier who helped me set up the operation required I have a limited warranty, but he's gone now, so i just retro-actively applied the Lifetime version. I don't think he'll mind. As long as I can get parts, I'll keep them running.  ;)
