Gas tank trouble
« on: February 08, 2022, 03:41:37 PM »
Hello all! So my 1977 cb550k’s gas tank( from a 750 if I recall) original hole patch work I did failed, so I slapped some bondo and fiberglass for a temporary patch, but I’m gonna strip down the areas and other bubbles appearing and reseal them. It also appears my tank didn’t seal completely :/ . Anyone have any recommendations on methods to seal a decent amount of holes? I was thinking of soldering, but I’m not sure if it’s gonna make the sealant all nasty inside.

I’ve used POR15 motorcycle tank sealant kit on three tanks and been very pleased with the results. I haven’t had to deal with any pinholes but I remembered reading about it in the POR documentation. They also have a tank patch kit but I have no experience with it.

When I said bondo in the post I meant JB Weld lol, sometimes works, but it started leaking again

At some point it's easier to find a better tank. You may have reached that point.
