Hey 450 guys! Got an oil leak
« on: March 04, 2007, 03:51:34 PM »
Got the 500t back together. Removed left stator cover to gap the points, and was met with a fair amount of my fresh oil. Didn't notice any when I had the left side cover off, but it didn't have much oil in it. My POS Clymer manual does not cover S. Have seen several posts that say do not use 3 finger pullers on the stator, but does not say what to use.

Use rear axle or the 4 way 'puller'

Is there SUPPOSED to be some oil in the left side? I looked at 3 manuals (included 1970s Chilton's) and they all say "drain oil before removing cover". No parts fisches or exploded views show a crank seal on either end of crank. (Thanks to bill440cars for your response). Hey, I am a SOHC guy (and an apparent DOHC newbie).

Unless its very vertical oil will come out when the outer cover is removed
