any differences in the unicorn mounts?
« on: April 13, 2022, 05:28:51 PM »
Are there any differences in the unicorn mount or just the gauges and orientation of instrument lights?

Im only interested in the green face ones after the blackface k0 but I dont want to pay for some and have the wrong triple.

The gauges with the indicator lights need to be mounted in a rhino horn triple, The 72 has different gauges and I believe a one year only mount system.
The top triples all swap except the F which has a different offset.
Anything for or with a rhino horn mount will be expensive, partly because the rhino horn mounts are prone to breaking.  69/70 and 71 gauges also bring top dollar.

There are some slight differences between the unicorn top trees.  The earliest ones have a narrower unicorn and it is at a different angle than the later ones.  There was also a change in the pinch bolts on the 1972 version.  The unicorn is a poor way of mounting the gauges as they will buzz with higher rpm.  The later rubber cup mounts were better for the gauges.

An old trick (I just used it on my latest project) is to add a wide, black rubber band, around the facorty rubber mount. It adds a layer and limits the “rattle”. If you find the right width, it can’t be seen.
