cafe paint ideas?
« on: March 06, 2007, 10:01:01 pm »
I have done some searching and found a few nice ones, but I am still up in the air as to what colors to use and the painter is about ready. The frame is black and most of the alum. parts have been polished, its a cb750k by the way, and I was all this time planning to do the tank silver and the seat and side covers black. With perhaps a rising sun flag on the tank. Or maybe a rising sun and a union jack next to each other or diagnaly cut to make one flag?

But of course, as with every damn thing on this bike, I am now thinking of changing things. I also thought of a red tank, or a red/silver/black combo or even kind of a burnt orange (non metalic) or..... well I could go on.

So I was sort of hoping for some pictures of non stock colors on cafe's. All the really cool ones you have please.

Now I will go back to mumbling in the corner and polishing little alum. bits of bike

Oh and here is the bike before I tore it down and painted/polished everything

Bike looks great, hard to go wrong with any colour on that. Just a matter of personal preference. Try photoshop as recmd.

A Brit flag an a Jap bike is pure sacrilege!
Soichiro Honda would be turning over in his grave, if such a travesty occurred.

Just my 2 cents...

I like red and black, but there seems to be too many red bikes and too many black bikes (or a combination of the two).  I'd say to go a different route, either a single color or two tone that's tasteful and/or understated.  I only mention this because I too have been kicking around paint options-and red/black is my favorite color combo!  But I feel that a different paint scheme that looks similar to a Honda factory offering but different enough that people notice after they look the second or third time.  Subtle is cool, IMHO.

Prost!

Haven't seen a black and cream colored cb750 yet.
If the paint scheme is good, black and cream look really classy.

JK ;D

unless of course your name was mike hailwood.

Soichiro Honda was a big fan of european machines, espically brit and italian bikes.

Personally, the paint scheme I have always liked is one I see on motoguzzi's from time to time (and a few hondas) and that is two stripes (one big and one little) running across the tank laterally at an angle. Everybody (including me) seems to do the stripes that run the length of the bike, but I rarely see them going across the bike.

here is what I am talking about:

here it is on a 350f I found on ebay:

When I was doctoring the picture of for the guy that was discussing an olive drab and black bike, I was adjusting the color and I went through a cream color w/ black stripe and it looked pretty cool.  Also, I think cream with a dark brown would look cool.

Just my worthless 2 cents.  :)

geeto I think you have hit paydirt. I am in love with that stripe. colors are still a little up in the air. I am really leaning towards a red or silver tank, and probably black seat and side covers either way. Thanks for the responses guys

since someone brought up little differences in the paint, what about flat black with a gloss black strip down the length?

Or you can paint the frame and do something really different. Now, I'm not telling you to steal my idea or anything, but I do kinda have something like this in mind for another project that I might be getting soon.

i don't know if it can help you, but, here is a scheme i'm planing to do on my bie wheni'll get time.

i was looking for something that would look vintage, so no candy or metal flakes. i choos ivory instead of bright white so it don't stand out to much. by the way it still need the pinstrip between red and white.. if i can receive tose damn pinstriping brush...

feel free to adapt it on your!

or ignore it...

I'm thinking a variation of the British racing green as a base color with stripes / emblems / decals / graphics of your choice would go well. Using the stock Honda green colors on the tank, side covers and tail would give the bike a factory-racer look in my humble opinion.

So last night in the wee small hours I was watching "Dogfights" on the history channel and had a moment of clarity. What about a white stripe over the top of a silver tank, lateraly as has been suggested, and a red circle bordered in white a la' WW2 zero? I dont have photoshop and I dont know if I can fit it all on there withought it looking silly, but I am really thinking there is a cool idea in there somewhere.
