slow in progress but engine components looked good on the disassembled parts.
cleaned up the soot from the bottom of the valves nothing caked on like the parts bike. (oh yeah) so when taking off the pistons I was doing good on 1-3 and then on the 4th I started to take it out and PING! it went flying! I heard a bing which was the ac unit, then tok which was the carboard box next to it and then... nothing! tried to look for it and did not find it anywhere so I thought "hey I got some from the 500 I took apart. got one and was about to put in and it looked bigger so I checked with the others out and it was bigger. so I started to take the parts engine apart to get one clip. Opening up the parts bike looked like it has some internal rust on the valve springs and nuts. its got that orangy looking stuff all over.
back to the original engine, I started to take off the valve springs to check the condition of the rubbers and see if any valves were cracked. I started with the exhaust valves and to my surprise they did not have any rubbers and the valves looked different. the gasket kit kinda fooled me because the kit has 8 rubber valve nipples. so I put the springs and clips back on, checked the others to see they were the same and moved onto the intake valves.
the cylinder jugs looked good, not any glazing on the cylinders and the honing was still there.
replaced the bottom gasket and the ring gaskets and started back up cleaning the bases with alcohol before installing the gaskets back on moving my way back up with the cylinder valve torqing down gasket, leaving it before loosening the nuts again and retorqing back down.
I gotta get back into the storage shed to get the grease and lubes to start putting the pieces back together and get this engine back in.
the weather is starting to turn cold and not sure if it is going to be an early winter here in TN.
