oil to the top end check
« on: September 10, 2022, 01:36:46 PM »
Hey all, Ive completely restored a 34,000 km 1971 K1, new everything and a thorough clean and tidy up etc.
All assembled, good oil pressure but the top end was a little rattly, so I checked all the valve clearances [only 1 was out of spec] and was alarmed at the apparent lack of oil in the cam tower area just looking through the valve cap holes.......
The oil jets were in place and cleaned with carb cleaner and compressed air and the O rings were all correct and in place.
How do I satisfy myself that oil to the top end is fine, without pulling the engine?

All I can think of is get a really good flashlight and look at the sides of the rocker arms, there should be oil showing there. Any time I have one apart I use assembly lube on the top end in case it takes a minute for oil to get there.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Run it with the caps off and oil should come out of every cap
