Cb350f seized lower triple clamp

Hey guys, I’m currently replacing the steering head bearings on my CB 350f and I’ve run into some issues. The lower triple clamp is seized and will not come out of the frame. Any tips that you guys might have to remedy this and/or do you think it would be OK to just hammer down on the steering stem to get it to come out? I know this is kind of a basic question. I’m just scared of breaking something.

assuming you have removed all the collar nuts etc from the top of the stem put a piece of wood on top of the stem and smack it with a hammer, starting gently and allow the force to build proportionately with the frustration when it still doesn't move

It seems that the stem is possibly rusted to to top bearing.  Have you been using PB Blaster to hopefully work on the rust? Have you tried heating the bearing to help break it loose?(Just have to be careful not to catch the grease on fire). Hitting the top of the stem with a block of oak and hammer after heating is okay.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve heated it up and put some penetrating fluid all in it so hopefully it’ll come out. I was just worried about damaging it so thanks for clearing my head a bit. I figured it was probably just rusted with it being 50 some years old and original.

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
