Need help to nudge Honda about some of these parts!
« on: October 05, 2022, 04:48:04 PM »
Is anyone here acquainted with a method of creating a petition of folks from this forum that I can then forward to Honda (again) re:
the critical parts for these bikes(?).

Last Fall I sent a list of Critical Parts to them for the 750 and 500/550 bikes, which included the points plate assemblies from TEC (or Hitachi). They responded, and we were able to get new points plates until very recently.

Anyone know how to do this?

a few years ago i asked something from the national honda office here in the netherlands, that they eventually put through to the mother company in japan and relayed the answer back. so in your case, maybe it's worth trying through honda USA or north america? or how did you contact them last time?

I believe HondaMan is asking how to set up a poll for members to sign some sort of a petition to convince Honda that there is demand for CB750 and CB550 OEM parts.

HondaMan, I am not sure how that can be set up here but sign me up, all the way to whole new motorcycles. It would not be the first time a Japanese manufacturer would make it happen

In 2000 and 2005 Nikon reproduced limited number of Nikon S3 and Nikon SP respectively, that is almost half a century after theses cameras were first introduced. BUT.....These were sold via a lottery for about $8000.

I am guessing a reproduction of a whole CB750 would be priced well beyond my means x 1000.

Lat time I asked them for things like the points plates, crank/rod bearings (which fit many bikes, they are from a Mitsubishi car engine after all), their pistons and rings (but RIK and MC make their rings), and handlebar switches. They would not respond about pipes and tanks, but I think Yamiya has a handle on those. I asked them for all the SOHC4 bikes' parts (even for the 250F, which Sochiro built just for the Japanese).

In typical Japanese fashion (which I learned from working with them between 1972 and 2008 in various industries) they selected the last item of the list that they accepted and would consider: I purposefully made this item the points plate assemblies so they could accept the whole list in a single statement. I got back from them the ACK that they would look into supplying [up to] the last item. That was in October, 2020.

Does anyone know of a place on the 'net where we could put up a 'petition list' or maybe just a list of those in support, so I could send them a link to it?  I'd then craft the same letter again. I don't want it to get 'cold'.

How about this idea?
Each of you PM me with your Name, the CB(s) you have, your State (or Country if not USA). No more info than this: I am REAL sensitive to this internet and personal info stuff after my identity was sold to the internet in 2006 by a crook who worked for the State.
Then I will copy/paste these into a "signed by" section at the end of the list of parts we are requesting they support.
Then I'll print it and send it, as well as e-mail it to the persons/departments I did last time. I'll also try to find the place in Honda Japan to send it to, in case it didn't get there last time. Japan was in the midst of their Kung Flu woes when I last tried to send it there, and I don't think anyone in Japan actually saw/heard of it.

yes i wouldn't collet that kind of personal information publicly on the internet. neither would i provide my data. but do they need it? why do they need to know where somebody interested in parts, lives?
i would guess that the whole point is to give them an idea of the amount of people who are interested in parts. not who each one of them is, where everybody lives, their email address etc.

there's a poll function on this website. you could turn a list of parts into a poll and we all vote for the ones we're interested in. and send them a link to the page with the poll, so that they can see the numbers themselves.

Not to mention the cost to reinstate into production parts from 50 years ago versus the revenue it will bring. Especially when there are possible third party sources for replacements. Highly unlikely a modern vehicle company will be swayed by a few signatures (even 10,000).

You can never tell about these things.
A company like Honda may just take it to heart for the legacy aspect.

I follow a guy on Instagram, @kokoro_honda...he works/worked for Honda America in marketing for a long time after moving up through dealerships.  He is totallly into all aspects of vintage Honda stuff.  I could message him and ask what the best approach might be.

Mark - I think they are listening. It’s been a while since I have browsed at Honda Global, but I came upon this statement and photo and many of these pictured parts look mighty familiar.

Wow, Kev, those pictured parts are all on the old list I sent them in 2020!
Where did you find that?
One of the unusaul items I listed was the special, shouldered, undercut countersprockets (and listed the part numbers), because they outlast anything else almost 4:1 - and that appears to be in the left of that picture.

Sorry, I should have posted the link earlier, but I was just a bit excited. I couldn’t make out the part number on the wiring harness and then I spotted the round ignition switch plug.

Lots of corporate talk here. I was looking for new Honda models that the US doesn’t get.

Very cool, Kevin! I've never seen that site before. In that picture there is even a CB750 rocker arm: this is the only bike where that part was used! It was on my list, too, but as a "wish list" item and not a 'critical part' selection.
