Mystery part
« on: October 17, 2022, 06:09:10 PM »
I have been into the guts of two CB 750 motors, a 1971 and a 1972. Recently a friend, based on my "vast experience" (duh) asked me to refresh a 1978 Supersport motor that he got. Foolishly I agreed. When I split the cases, I was surprised to find   there was a piece missing. I searched the inter web and found the missing part. The name of which I forgot. Having received it from ebay it I found that the part does not fit. The hole for the bolt does not line up. The question: although I saw the piece (indicated by screwdriver) in earlier cases, I found none in the 78 motor. Was the part left out of the '77-'78 Supersport motor? Was the entire case changed? I also noted that the '78 motor has no apparent chain oiler provision. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The factory deleted that part with the deletion of the chain oiler.

No chain oiler for sure, that got phased out way before the F2. I don’t have one of those things in my current motor! I will be tearing down a 77 F2 motor soon will show you what I find!

Might still be good to have to keep more oil near the final drive bearing.

These were deleted in the engines where the size 630 chain is used. This was the K7/8 and F2/3 engines.
