Rear wheel sprocket side spacer question
« on: October 17, 2022, 07:13:22 PM »
This is a really silly question I'm sure, but I've already had to pop the bearings back out of this wheel once because of forgetting the silly spacer that goes inside the larger bearing so I don't want to leave any room for mistakes.  The spacer in the photo below goes in with the wider shoulder facing away from the hub, right?  And it goes in after you've installed the seal, sprocket and the little cover plate thing as well, right?

Also, what's the best tool for installing the seal inside the rear wheel bearing retainer?  I tried using a piece of PVC pipe and a rubber mallet and ruined one seal already.  I bought 2 extra this time but would rather get it done right.

Thanks all for all the help through my various CB550 adventures.

Have a look at this from CMSNL:

The seal that side goes in part 3, the side plate. The spacer you are holding (I think) goes through that seal and is loose until the whole lot is bolted in.

Huh, well I'll be that explains why I was having so much trouble.  The previous owner had installed the seal inside that retainer so I assumed that was correct.  It was a whole lot easier installing it in that plate thing lol.  I'm gonna save that picture, that's way better than the other fische pics I've seen.  So the larger shoulder end of that spacer goes towards the hub.  Glad I made this post!

Thanks!
