Cylinder head dowel pin

Anyone have a technique for removing stuck dowel pin from cylinder head?


  I’ve let it soak in just about every penetrating oil I can find for days. It still won’t budge. The stuck dowel is getting mangled so I’m not worried about saving it. The others all came out without any effort.

Any thought in how to get it out?

 Insert a tap until it bites and turn it out.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

PB Blaster soak followed up with a propane torch on low heat to expand the aluminum, then pliers to turn the dowel pin.

 I think I used a 10mm tap or a pair of water pump pliers designed for the wire spring hose clamps. They squish the dowels less.

Late suggestion, ..... I insert a close fitting dowel, [shouldered bolt ? ] so the dowel cannot crush....and use mole grips or water pump pliers.

I spray on some penetrating oil, then light it with a MAPP gas torch. Then they usually comes out with coarse pliers. They also need to be turned on a lathe in order to fit back into the hole after that, or just replaced with new ones.
