I'm working on a bike that was acquired recently with a few issues.
All issues have been ironed out with the exception of one.
The bike runs great but after about 20 miles, when you come to a stop, it
will idle for about 15 seconds and then slowly die.
It will fire right back up and die again in short order.
Once you've left the stop it runs great.
PO had replaced the rings. Bottom end supposedly has never been apart. 30000 miles.
I've had the carbs apart to clean a replace the mismatched and non Keihin jets.
75 Mains / 38 pilots / Needles at second from the top / Floats at 22mm / idle screws at 1.5
Bike is a little cold natured but after two minutes idles at 1200 rpm with no issues.
The bike was hard to kick. Seemed like it had too much friction/rings tight.
I took the top end down and although the ring end gap was within the factory specs,
they seemed tight to me. They had almost .750 of unrestrained end gap.
Lots of compression required to collapse them to bore size.
The rings showed wear spots as if the end gap closed and the rings tried to warp.
Cylinders honed an extra .0005 and new rings fit to the high side of stock .0135.
Reassembled. Started right up and idled/ran fine.
Took her out for a test ride. I can tell she's a little freer.
20 miles.....come to a stop.....and she dies.
She fires right back up and off you go.
Before I replaced the rings, when she stalled, she had a major lack of power until you got
some air moving over the engine.
Now she has normal power when restarted but the stalling at idle is still an issue.
Suggestions? TIA! and no, dynamite is not gonna work.
