I'm looking for some Made in USA Crocus cloth Fine grit;the Norton company has always been my 'go to' brand of 'red cloth' and it does the trick for polishing engine moving parts like crankshaft rod journals, etc. I use it for a lot of different stuff. I'm looking for a supplier but so far,in this area:NADA nobody carries it..

McMaster Carr, online ordering
Call around to a few machine shops, they should be able to point you to local suppliers or tell you who they buy theirs from...

DO you have Ace Hardware there in California? They generally have harder to find things.

Hi David,I know a quality Independent Powersports Machinist in Loomis who buys his Crocus cloth 'rolls' from McMaster-Carr.I want the flat sheets of it rather than rolls.
I tried Ace,True Value, etc. I spent a few hours today 'calling around'.. No dice.  >:(
I called AirGas and a nice person found some Crocus cloth from an online source:I checked and the place couldn't verify the grit,I need Fine grit 9"x11" sheets.Their stuff comes from China.. so it will flake-off quick and leave more residue on these precision engine parts than the 'good stuff'.I need Norton or a quality equivalent Made in USA Crocus cloth.

Made in Mexico...
Generally M-C carries good quality products...

The rolls can be cut into sheets of size you need...

Stuff coming out of Mexico can be high quality, built to a specification. Many international companies setup shop there for cheap labor and access to American markets by rail is good and inexpensive. Can distribute from Mexican ports to other countries as well.
Ton of automobiles being built in Mexico as well...

I've even seen race cars being trailered through Tucson on I-10 coming out of Mexico, Ferraris and other exotics...
Lots of rich Mexicans frequently come up to shop in Tucson and Phoenix...as well as the underbelly being those who buy tons of stuff here, both new and used, and take it back and sell it for 2-3-4 times as much in Mexico. Lots of vehicles end up getting bought and rebuilt and sold in Mexico too... Wrecked and worn out stuff as well as decent used... Not uncommon to see 1 truck flat towing two cars or a car towing another car heading to Mexico.

I would trust that anything McMaster Carr sells is going to be better quality than any cheap stuff from China.

The specs looked good 5) 9x11" sheets Fine:equivalent to 1500-2000 grit. I didn't see the brand name,just McMaster-Carr.

They don't list the brand...I wouldn't be hung up on brand if you cannot find Norton locally. Never bought anything from McMaster-Carr that was not good quality. If it is affordable and what you need, then go for it.

Yeah.. I'd still prefer to find some Norton or 3M good USA made:the glue they use to bond the red iron oxide to the cloth is a durable product.
