« on: February 26, 2023, 09:28:09 AM »
Do NOS exhaust come up for sale very often? I know they are expensive, just wondering how often they come up for sale. Thanks

Go to Yamiya
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

10 years ago, I stumbled on 2 sets of NOS Honda HM300 pipes, still in boxes. I paid Cdn$1000/ set and thought I’d completely lost my mind. One set is on my K1, the other went on the K0 “show bike” I sold 6 months ago.

I recently saw a set on the “Sandcast Only” forum, I think the guy was asking US$4,000 and they sold instantly! Every time someone asks this question, I wonder if I should buy a set of Yamiya’s for my K1 and pull off the NOS set..... Then I think “screw it”, use em up!

There ain't many bikes that can boast the sound of the K0/K1 with original pipes.
I still remember living 1969-1971 in Peoria, IL, the drag-town of the midwest where the NASCAR prototypes were marketed and Main Street on Friday and Saturday nights were like no place else, ever. The cops, on their H-D Police bikes, would pull over to watch and only get involved if a wreck or potential injury happened, as their bikes (and cars!) could not hope to keep up with the fantastic vehicles staging at the 5 stoplights west of the 'top of the hill'. In the midst of the Superbirds, the Heavy Chevies, the Daytona Chargers, Shelby Cobras and 'Stangs could be heard the raking scream of the redlined 750, usually putting down any one of those magnificent cars, or fighting it out with one of the Kawi mosquito foggers... (sorry, Terry! ;)  ).

One August night a street fight broke out near the Steak 'n 'Shake, between the Peoria Blacktoppers and a nearby Angels' chapter. The chops were astounding in full Saturday-night dress, and they were jousting (for real) with each other in runs toward each other across the white line. At first they were trying to kick each other over until a Blacktopper broke his left leg against a Panhead chop, then things got ugly. The Police got on their H-Ds and rode away (to get more help? Dunno...) from their spot at the Steak and Shake, and gunfire started happening shortly after that. In that, I still remember hearing 2 different CB750s somewhere in the midst of the smoky street, running intermittently to redline and crackling their signature. The fight went on until I backed out during the gunfire (about 11 PM), but I heard the noises until past midnight.

I got lucky with my '71/'72/'75 pile o' parts bike.  When it came time for exhaust someone on ebay was selling a decent (solid 8/10) set of stock pipes for what I could afford at the time.  Find out later they were HM300s, and that they sound way better than the later ones.  In hindsight I'm super happy I managed to find a set.

Yamiya pipes are very good stuff. I know that these things were made to ride but I think if I had a set of original pipes in the boxes for my bike I probably would leave them in the boxes and run Yamiya pipes. I know, sounds stupid and it is but there really aren’t any stock exhausts like them with the possible exception of the original Z1 set, which can only be described as a CB 750 “me too” arrangement. I’m such a fan boy, the sound of the Lotus Root system is like no other, I can only imagine how many iterations it took them to get it right when they were designing and testing.
And many years ago there was a good car/bike scene in San Rafael and Petaluma and other small towns in California. “American Graffiti “is not too far off the mark. Lots of light to light action. Many K0 cases were damaged as they whopped up on Sportsters.

Buy a new set of Yamiya no numbers, sell the HM300  and get money for more parts.
But if your K1 is 100% stock, keep them. It will probably sell better when time for it.

That Goldwing a '75, I'm guessing?

I'm lucky enough to have a yellow '76.  WONDERFUL bikes.

Yes, ‘75. Belongs to one of my best friends. Gary has three old bikes and spends one day a week in my shop. Lovely “rider”.
