i think I have to build up the bottom lip more
I layered the inside of the starter what should have been the amount that would shrink after the last cover did not fill all the way through

the next step would be to remove a layer and try that
but to remove 1 layer I would have to remove all layers and start over

luckily I have another cover from the 71 motor I can use but I think I am going to save that for the super tall oil pan fins next

do a light sanding to remove casting look and make smooth?

I have to find out how they cast most of the covers because they never have gates or sprues on the outside
you only see them from the inside
I tried this before with not too good results but i dont have all the tools required to do what I think is needed and I do in my head to solve this problem
as you may have seen with my other parts that have been casted the areas were deburred and smoothed leaving little or no sign of them
on this one I did a slow burr to replicate the sand look

had a little head cold this week so no real progress on the covers.
felt pretty good today to start work on the second cover.
I dont get what happened
maybe it was the way it was cast or a different steps but this one came out flat

so I cut the gates not flush but about a mm from the bottom of the cover
then I worked on the inside grinding it
then I sanded fitted sanded fitted sanded and fitted
each time not getting that hobble like the first one did

So back at it. I started work on another to see how it would turn out but I'm still getting that wobble.
After sanding grinding sanding again and again something had to be up.
I remade another sanding off gates and flat where no wiggle on cement floor where I do the sanding then some sanding inside the cover where it meets the bolt holes.
Coming along and get the wobble.
I took off the oil pressure cover and put back on. Still wobble.
Took cam chain spring piece off to get a better look to see where the wobble was coming from.
There is a bump near the jugs at front right corner.
Took a ruler to check all the other areas and they are all flat except this spot.
Before I go and sand this down is this supposed to be there?

Man! that looks Great Bert! what paint is that with the texture on it? that looks very cool.

not sure how finny you want your bike to be but got a guy who asked if I could make him a piece for his chopper Im working on

For the cover i've just used vht paint. But for the rest of the motor i've done it with powder coating.
For the vent cover,i have a low profile cover.

been awhile since the guy gave me to work on this breather cover project
it has been tough
im working on the front now to create the look of the front
it is a little bit at a time but so far so good

luckily I was able to cast a couple that I could work with except the front was not built up and had to dig into the front

the one on the left has thinner fins thanks to not having a smaller diameter bastard file to grind it
and the one on the right has thicker fins but dont have a bigger file to get rid of all the pitting between the fins

next up will be a test of the oem to see if will cast and not have to file any of the fins or faces to keep that sand cast look

Ill keep a few like that but I will have to fill in the sides to make it flat without the bottom lip
I thought I would just remove the lip but this leaves too much area on the top of the rocker cover
