I do like the looks of the shocks too. I have the rear master and caliper rebuilt and installed. Front calipers are off and received my 4 new pistons a couple days ago. I just could not put bad pistons back on there.

A caliper that uniformly releases from gripping the rotor,the way it was designed to.. is a performance improvement on our old bikes.
I once worked on bringing a persons GL1000 back into service after it sat for years;it was a real joy 
The customer had correctly prepared it for storage and then protected it properly 
The only thing the brakes needed was to have the fluid changed;even the fuel system was completely drained !

Camna that sounds like it was a neat project. It’s neat how on the GL you can replace the front pads without removing the caliper. Brakes are rebuilt now I’m ready to install the timing belt covers, valve covers, radiator. Shocks are supposed to be here July 11th.

Shocks arrived today from goldwingparts.com. I’m very happy with the fit and chrome finish. I wanted adjustable. Front and back brakes are done as are both MC’s. Next I move onto putting my polished timing covers and valve covers on.

Going to use Honda Bond sparingly on a few spots of the timing covers to hold them in place when I install. In looking at the gaskets it appears Honda didn't put it all over both sides. I take it that's because it's mainly used to keep dirt and water out of the belt area. Also the valve cover gaskets had no sealant on either side...is that correct?

Today I removed the center and side stands, battery holder and the exhaust. Was going to hold off until winter, but easier to paint outside. Plan is to use scuff pads on the exhaust then use Duplicolor engine enamel. With just scuffing do you think I should primer it too? The black exhaust was it flat, satin or semi?

Is there Exhaust donuts between the muffler and headers? If donuts, no paint is necessary where the donuts go.

Yes, there is donuts there. I do have a new set of donuts if I decide to separate the headers from the mufflers. Also have 4 new copper headers gaskets.

Home Depot sells a black BBQ paint that works well too. I may have brought this up before, but while you have the headers away from the cylinder head, look closely down the first bend from the flange. The early bikes have a double walled down pipe and the inner pipe had a habit of overheating and collapsing in on itself. On my ‘76 one of them was almost 75% closed off and it never ran right. Someone told me about it and when I swapped in a good one, the engine came alive! Apparently it was a very common problem.

Originally those joints (header to muffler) had a very nice clamp too.

Keep them together. I had a very hard time getting them back together after I replaced the muffler.
