Topic: Carb Rebuilder Recommendations

I have a set of CB550F carbs that may need rebuilding.  I normally would tackle it myself, but I have way too many projects going on, including rebuilding a water-damaged kitchen.

Can any of you recommend a good carb rebuilder?  Is there one in the Washington State area?

I searched the forum, and found recommendations, but they were a few years old.

This Branson Tank holds about 24 litres of solution. It belonged to one of the guys I race with. Tim has a full service auto shop that keeps 5 mechanics and one apprentice very busy. The tank stopped working a few years ago and was one of the filthiest tubs I’ve ever seen. There was +1” of dried sludge in the bottom and even the outer case was black with grease (originally white). It’s been bugging me, just sitting there, getting kicked around.

Dragged it home last week and opened it up. Of course it’s filled with circuit boards and sealed components that could be part of the space shuttle. A few of the sensors that were glued to the bottom of the tank had pulled away, so repaired the obvious. Some basic testing gave me a clue. The main control is a Diehl T85 Type 600 switch. Up to 60 minutes of run time, or can be cranked to full, locked “ON”. Regardless of the setting, no continuity. Internet browsing shows the item is generally used in tanning beds and hot tubs. Not available locally and not cheap!

Scrounged around in my junk bins and found a new rocker switch, DPST. Rated at 20 amps/ 250 V. Hooked it up and and it all came back to life. Two hours of scrubbing and I have a tank that is four times the size of my mini “carb tank”.

Moral of the story: You don’t always have to be a Rocket Scientist to figure stuff out!

 I think it varies depending on model, how dirty or damaged, etc. He's always been reasonable to me.

I just sent an email to North City Vintage Honda on Lake City Way in Seattle.  Jeremiah did a great job on my carbs years ago, but I am not sure they are still in business.  Will let you know if I hear back.
