Front Fork seal replacement, other parts to replace?
« on: April 22, 2023, 11:29:09 AM »
I have a leaky fork seal in my K8 (CB750K).

Was just beginning to look at parts and such.

Is there any other parts I need to consider changing out while torn apart?

I will be using the bike as a normal rider, no racing, sometimes 1 rider, sometimes 2 riders.  The bike has 23k miles, should I consider springs?

Is there anyway to lower the front about 1/2" while performing said work?

At least on the earlier 750's seals are about the only thing you need. There are specs to measure your fork springs to see how long they still are and if within limits. Weight and type of fork oil will be important.

I usually replace the sealing washers under the drain screws and the cap screw at the bottom. A small dab of “Hondabond” insures a good seal too.

I've ordered new Honda fork seals and dust caps.

After tear down will order what I think it needs.

Thanks for the info.

Try breaking the allen head bolts at the bottom of the forks loose first before you remove the spring. Sometimes better while you have that tension and avoid the spinning bolt syndrome which a wood broom handle is sometimes needed.

Impact gun with properly sized Allen hex bit is good about breaking the screw free on bottom of the fork leg.

Does anyone know the size of the allen hex bit?

On the earlier 750's it is 6mm, should be the same for yours.

BTW - Craftsman has a nice bit set if you dont have one...

Sometimes just a regular drill at high speed will work to break those loose also. Quick stab on the trigger.

And you can always drill the head off the bolt as a last resort.
