CB550 crankshaft Grinding main and big end bearings
« on: May 06, 2023, 08:15:16 AM »
Hi, are there oversized bearings available for a CB550. I can only find the factory ones, the different colours, available. These will not work once the crank is ground.
My problem is that my big end measures 34.97 and mains 31.98, but the surfaces of the journals aren't in good condition.
The crank needs to be ground down by 0.25mm.
Are there any oversized bearings available that could suit my ground down crank?
Has anyone had experience possibly fitting donor bearings and machining to suit?
Any other options besides sourcing another crankshaft  :D
Thanks

I've been looking for years (have 3 cranks that could be "good" if I could find bearings) and haven't found any.
It's always been that I've had to source another crank.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Hey E=mc2,

eBay has a selections of cb550 cranks from $8.00+ and up. Shipping will be the equalizer…

I didn’t see any .010 undersized bearing advertised from the 550..

I’m not one to bastardize things but sometimes other manufacturers offer bearings of similar widths of Honda with similar or different installed ID’s . More than a few have used them to offset grind their cranks to increase the stroke a bit…perhaps if you know a walking encyclopedia crank grinder they can help you out. I’m thinking Yamadog has bearings that will allow a cb750/dohc900 crank another mm or 2 of stroke depending on your undersize bearing courage.. 😇
