Raise your hand if you have ever seen one?????
« on: August 04, 2023, 12:24:49 PM »
I had not, a vintage oil cooler from who knows what year.  The base goes to the the oil filter via an adapter.  Was on my ugly, cut frame, rear Harley wheel, extended forks, Ray Charles installed wiring harness, every bolt frozen, missing parts, project bike......

Might be finding some internal engine go fast mods that often require oil cooling if the bike is gonna be rode hard in hot weather for several miles at a time.  If you ever rode a big bore on a hot summer day, you will certainly notice there is some extra heat that wants out of that engine.

Those look like nice parts to me, minus that sketchy clear tubeing.  If you use those definitely get some better oil hose.

Somewhere I have an adapter with a thermostatic valve in it. My Rat Race bike has a Lockheart that was ruined with chrome plating of the frame but there is a better original one on its brother bike.

Wasn't the Lockhart the first one (or maybe ONLY one) to have that thermostatic bypass for the cold engine? That was a fave feature on the racers I worked with. I've never installed one (removed quite a few), and I think I've seen some 5 different brands of them. My fave, though, was on a roadracer: it was a Ford power-steering oil cooler, mounted into the oil feed hose, mounted behind the right (rearset) footpeg where the airflow from the fairing exited from the engine. It both warmed (when cold) and cooled (when hot at speed) the oil enroute to the engine, and was [almost] free at the local junkyard. :)
