flashers
« on: September 06, 2023, 07:20:22 PM »
1st flasher was found on a couple of mid 70's 550's...supposedly original bikes, no proof
There are no identifying marks as to manufacturer , front or back.
2nd one is official honda , D.O.T sticker, Shows up as the original, pre-superceded part. But, is made in the U.S.A....says so on the back. All of these I've seen, even non D.O.T., are all made in the U.S.
So honda had these shipped with the bikes from Japan?

or is the 1st flasher actually the original factory supplied one.

In every other country the flasher was a more complicated round can with three connectors but us rules dictated something different so what you have was probably factory fitted and the dot bit covered by the declaration on the vin plate
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Are these from an ebay seller or off your bike that you bought new from the dealer? If off ebay, remember that the sellers will put any multiple words in to make a sale. It is buyer be ware.
The 1st photo is off ebay I presume from the picture you posted? Probably is a replacement someone bought and not original equipment.

The second picture looks like the correct ones I've handled off the Hondas.

I just buy a new electronic flasher that is round or square and zip tie it to the rubber holder.

thanks,
I don't need one, and the honda replacement today , like from CMS, is available, just doesn't fit in the original rubber holder.  plus, you can get a new holder to fit the superceded part...
I get interested in researching original, factory parts with honda, specifically 550's.....
The flasher is from ebay and off a '74 550K. The seller has no info on the bike, he gets bikes, strips 'em and sells parts. So there's no proof of the parts origin. And the ad is 5 years old, hasn't sold....he's not claiming anything...
But, I have a '75 550F , purchased in 1994 that from all angles, research, and documentation, is an original, unrestored bike. It has that flasher in it, which started this questioning. Then I stumbled across this ebay ad showing the same one, which had me digging further. However, my bike was 19 years old in 1994, and although only had 6400 miles on it, I'm not the original owner.....so like I said, no "proof"....
That signal-stat is from an old Honda dealer I know, It was in an unopened Honda bag with the honda part tag.
He had others in a box, no bag, no D.O.T. sticker, from decades ago, but all made in the U.S.....

I wouldn't think Honda , back in 1975, would have U.S. made flashers, shipped to japan and put on factory bikes.
I also wouldn't think an original honda factory part would not have some type of identification on it either....
....just curious....
lots of knowledgeable people on here and some care about originality..........
