Pod filters on Keihin PD51A's

Hello. So im currently planning to make a cafe out of a neglected Cb650z 1980. Im cutting the frame and so on. So will pod filters work on the Keihins? (Planning to get a MO-Unit and all so i will empty out the frame.) Im not 100% sure if i go that road. Its a really good base. Frame is really rusted and gas tank is rusty and dented. So its a perfect candidate. I have 2 Rc03's and im buying new Murrays Carbs on the other one becouse of a 4-1 Exhaust system. So i can steal the working and synced carbs from that bike.

I think you are in for years of trying and failing to get it running right if you fit pods, the 650 we had in uk was a finicky swine at the best of times and i remember a Honda bulletin about drilling holes in an airbox somewhere
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Yeah. I think its better just to put it together and sell it. Ive gotten way too many grey hairs from that bike anyways. The frame is easy to make a cafe style. But i think ill find a CX500 for my next build. 1 rc03 is enough lol

you can steal the synced carbs but they wont be synced on any different motor.

Yeah well. They still would be better than the ones that were on it. I just lost all motivation bcs of them carbs. Cant get them rebuilt. And there is no carb specialists anymore here. Ive tried and tried but cant get them properly rebuilt. This whole project has been against me.

Yes haha. Worst part is that it isnt registered. So i cant even sell it. It has to be in driveable condition to have it registered.And of course winters is coming very soon. Weve already had snow up north.

Why??? Buy some gasket & oring kits and follow the directions in the FSM. There is absolutely nothing complicated about this whole thing as long you just follow directions, use the right tools, and have an inch of patience.

Quit treating the carbs like they're some mystery assembly or that they were designed to suck. They worked from the factory for 30+ years. Get them going for another 30.

Since frame is rusty and unregistered, why don't you toss the 650 frame and drop the motor in a registered or register-able cb550 frame...
Less custom work required to make it a great bike, cafe or not....

Which manual are you working out of? If you have the Clymer, then yeah you're already at a disadvantage. It doesn't do a good job of describing the separation and reassembly procedures. What you should be working with is the one that Honda wrote. It is posted in the Manuals & Tech Documents section of this forum. Every single thing about disassembly and reassembly is described.

This isn't impossible, I promise. We all start somewhere. My CB650 carbs were the first I really got my hands dirty with, and now I can rebuild them with my eyes closed. Maybe. You can too eventually. But also, please abandon hopes for the pod filters. They're nothing but trouble.

Yeah i have haynes book. I think its same as clymer. Pretty mutch useless. Ill have a look here. And yes i think ill ditch the cafe making of this bike. It would be ideal. But i have poured too mutch cash on it already.
