VERMONT TITLE LOOPHOLE CLOSED
« on: October 09, 2023, 08:36:19 AM »
Vermont title loophole has been buffed as of July 2023 making it nearly impossible to get a title for your motorcycle if out of state. Are there any other ways to get a title for a motorcycle that does not have one? I am in the state of PA.

Old news.

Each state is different, look up your DMV for procedures.

In TX, you can apply for a "bonded title" basically you purchase an insurance policy in case the previous owner pops up. Fairly painless process, have done it and need to again for a couple bikes I have.

If you're on Facebook look up Jack Valles he runs a title service out of Tenn.
Then there is Classic titles that does something very similar.

They both run right in the 300 bones range for paper work provided your vin is good and you checked prior. If your vin has something on it you get no paper a permanent ban as well as lose your money.

Gurp, thank you! I reached out to both and got a response from Jack. I will probably go this route.

I used Mr. Valles for some paper for my 63 Bel-Air. Good service.

He will send a transferable registration to you. I'm not 100% on classic titles I've had several friends use them with no complaints though as well.

I'll probably be using jack again in the spring. I'm sure there will be some good projects coming up without paper.

Some title companies used the Vermont loophole, check that out.

Just an FYI, AZ has an "abandoned vehicle title" process that is simple and much cheaper than filing for a bond. Other states might have it too. Just fill out a form that states the vehcile has been abandoned on your property for longer han 30 days ("my old roomate left and said he didn't want it..." type of thing), and then you send a registered letter to the last registered owner. If he/she receives it (I've bought bikes out of the system for years where the address no longer exists, in which case it's considered fine) he/she can dispute it. Of course if it's a legit sale and the letter reaches the former owner, no dispute occurs and you get a new title.
