50 Year old newbie ????????
« on: March 15, 2007, 11:30:26 AM »
Hi all,
Great site going here! I'm just getting back into bikes after 12 years. Always had Honda's, SL100, XL175, MR175, MR250, CB400F, 79 CB750F. All new from the showroom, all long gone. Last year wifey buys me a non Honda cruiser and I'm hooked again. Now there are 5 others in my shop in various states of pieces and parts. Last summer started restoring a 71 CB450. Almost done. A pair of 72 XL250s are nearly complete. In January I found a CX500 turbo, running, for $725.00! That restoration will be interesting. Last week a friend comes by to look at my work. Mainly the CB450. He is impressed and wants me to go to his place to look at a bike he wants restored. We get there and he opens the garage door and what do I find, but a 75 CB400F varnish blue with 12,000 miles in not too bad shape. It's all there. That makes a big difference. No problem, I'll do it. Nice to get my hand back on one! We start talking price and he proceeds to the back of the garage and takes the cover off of a 76 CB750F, Antares red with 18,000 miles on it. Really nice shape, registered and running. To make a long story short, it's mine for the restoration work with him paying for paint and parts!!!!!!  I'll attach pictures as soon as I can figure out how. Sure is good to hear that SOHC four silky sound again!

Welcome!!!!!!!
Saving F's is a valiant thing. I managed to save my 75 400f from being dismantled and eBay'd for parts as it had a lost title and had traveled across state lines and changed hands a few times. But alas, it was ment to be as I acquired the title in only a few weeks for about $10 and the thing will clear 100 on the guages without any serious work.
Please get some photos up of these wonderful machines.

Hi helgiman
Apart from our 2 SOHC4s and a DOHC4, we have a couple of CX500s. (One Shadow and one Custom). There is a great Aussie CX site @ http://groups.msn.com/AustralianHondaCX500CX650Register/messages.msnw with a wealth of technical knowledge.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Nice to see so many Honda freaks out there. I know it will make my life a lot easier when I run into technical crap! I'll get pictures posted soon. Right now I'm making more room in the shop. Who knows what will come thru the door next!

Where in the Mass countryside are you?  We've a number of members out your way.  I used to live on the west side of Worcester, myself.

Hi,
I'm in New Braintree, a mile from the State police academy. Great country roads for a Sunday cruise. Just got to watch out for cows and chickens crossing. I will have a powder coating set up on the way. Had to upgrade to a bigger compressor but it is the heart of the operation, blasting, air tools, etc. Any local guys are welcome to come by and talk Honda and look at my current restorations going on.  Theres always a cold beer nearby.  8)

Wait... Can you be 50 AND a newbie? ??? Is that possible?  ;D  Funny you have to watch out for chickens and cows on the roads! Around here we have to watch out for refuge bosnians who cant drive! :o  So it is not a matter of time before they run you over, it is a matter of running over you a second time cause they think they need to back up after hitting you! :D
