Reading a resurrected post this am, about aftermarket oil filter bolts that were assembled incorrectly, made me nervous. I used a shiny new one that came with some other stuff for this project! Took it out and all good.

Working on another project today, but did wash and polish up the original side covers. This bike is a true “Survivor”. Kudos to previous owners (only two). Always kept indoors and well looked after.

I just noticed the left side wing badge is backwards and a repro (no HM). Hmmm. I might have an original somewhere.

New CB750 K6 Anteres Red, to replace the totaled K5, I sold this K6 at 45k in 1983, I had heavily modified it, many great memories on it and have missed it greatly.....

I usually start with all the lines hooked up to #1 vacuum pipe and adjust all the columns to match.

My bench sync was pretty close, here’s how they started off. I played with #3 ever so slightly and DONE!

I set up a fan to keep things cool, but hardly needed it! Not a flawless day though. At one point I reached over to push off the choke lever (I was on the opposite side). Grabbed the brass pipe for the #1 carb vaccume line instead, pushed down and snapped it off….. fortunately I have the right die and the stuff is so soft it only took a minute to repair.

Need to rinse out the tank (I think I left about a litre of gas/2stroke oil 50/50 in it). Will probably pull the fuel tap and make sure it has a clean screen. After that, wait for a nice day (and our road to be dry) and take it for a rip! Pretty much done.

Hey! The road was dry enough I took the Varadero out today. Maybe sooner than later. I still have to look inside the tank, it’s been sitting for 8 years!

Pulled out the petcock, stripped it down and cleaned. Parts look good. The “sock” was very nice and clean. Temporarily replaced the petcock with a plug and soaking the bottom of the tank with fresh fuel. The fuel/ two stroke oil mix I left in there eight years ago had dried up. Will flush it out tomorrow. Stinks, but rust free.

Started cleaning up the tank. It has a few minor “bumps”, but nothing major. The almost 50 year old paint is excellent, so it will get rubbed down, polished and waxed….. “Only original once”, Frank would be delighted.

Got the new badges started and then softly “shaped” them into place with a clean, soft, white rubber mallet. Went well. Few more details and I’ll be done!

“Lash” dropped in for a nice visit today. Good to see a fellow enthusiast. Freezing and light snow here this aft. Maybe a while before I ride it…..

Could you take a shot with a tape measure lined up with the bottom of the decal and the bottom of the tank? I'll be painting mine this spring/summer and it would be handy to have some guidelines for the application of the decal (put on before the clearcoat)
Current Project: CB750-K6 (hoping for OEM look)
Future Project: CB750-K8  (likely go wild on this build)

Sure! I’ll do a few shots tomorrow. I also think it’s most important that the gold stripe below the badge runs very parallel to it.

Dennis….. these were so clean and undamaged that I just pushed in the new badges! In the past, I’ve lightly screwed in a drywall screw (they seem to have the sharpest points and nastiest flutes of any screw) and then wiggled them back by grabbing the head of the screw with a set of pliers. If they bottom without gripping, knock a bit of the point off the screw.

FYI… I use the same screws for pulling out the tach drive seal in the cam cover. Drive the tip into the seal ring, screw in a few turns and pull back.

I’ve a bunch of pics I took for my painter.  Both of the stripes and of the black cheeks after the stripes were removed.  But I can’t seem to post them.  Shoot me a message and I can maybe email them to you.

Tough to get a good picture. When I stood it up and looked closely; 2.25” from bottom of tank to bottom of lowest stripe.
