'75 cb550f SS Rear Engine Hanger Bolt
« on: November 08, 2023, 08:32:51 PM »
Slowing rebuilding/saving an abandoned project: 1975 cb550f SS.

I am at the point to install engine in frame.  In the parts box, I seemed to be missing the Rear Lower Engine Hanger Bolt.

Honda Part# 90107-390-000 - Bolt, Rear Engine Hanger Lower

Now on my '78 cb550 and '71 cb500, this bolt has thread on each end.  It is the bolt the rider foot pegs also get installed on.  So I found one in my stash of parts.

BUT, curious since I had two hanger bolts with hex heads, I looked up the part on CMS website.  It shows the lower engine rear hanger bolt as having a hex head.

Did the '75 cb550f SS use a different bolt here?

Yes due to the four into one exhaust, the supersport frame has a dedicated mounting stud on the right side for its fold up when kick starting foot peg.

Kinda silly, I know, but would anyone be willing to post a close up picture of the cb550f SS left-side lower engine bolt with the rider foot peg installed?  I'd just like to see how it looks assembled with the hex bolt as compared to the nut used with other models.

Here's one of my 550ss that's currently crammed into my lounge room along with all everything else that normally lives in the garage and taken on my 12 year old phone cause I can't get the new fandangled one to talk to the old computer!
John
You can just see that bolt between the foot peg, kick starter and the exhaust.
What a bizarre set up it is (bottom right corner of the picture) with the foot peg folded down it has a flat spot that sits against a corresponding flat spot on the kick start lower piece... weird

So this picture confuses me because this thread was to clarify if the '75 cb550f SS has a bolt with a hex head as shown below from the CMS parts list and confirmed here or one with double threads and nut as you show.

The thread with nut and washers that you see holding on the foot peg in my photo is not the end of the rear engine hanger, it is welded on at the factory and is part of the frame. The engine hanger bolt can be just partly seen between the foot peg pivot and the kick starter pivot,
