My lightened K6 alternator have no charging issues.
The only issues when connectors were loose, corroded and regulator not properly adjusted.
I (more or less) constantly watch  the voltage while riding since a few years. ;)

It look like this, here compared with a stock late.

About broken crank.
Can the alternator been loose when the bolt is not properly tightened?

I have heard about alternator/starter gear come loose when start with a weak battery, a kick back cause bolt to become loose. Alternator/starter gear rattle around.

My shop that lightened it 1983 used blue Loctite on the bolt.
I noticed that when I changed  crank to an APE.
I had to buy a cheap electrical impact wrench for car wheel nuts/bolts to get the bolt off.

Loctite when fasten it on the APE crank.

Regarding the CX lightened rotor, notice how much material has been removed from the inside. This is where the field coil magnetizes both sides (north and south poles) of the rotor, and the increased gaps reduce that coupling, reducing charging system output.

Wow, i nwver looked at the area where the material was removed. That would definitely reduce charging capacity.

I looked at my RC and unknown flywheels, neither were cut on the inside, both were cut on the back side. There are differences though, neither run a starter.

I think RC was the model for my nearby shop.

I wonder how the stock later will work vs lightened as RC?

Go with Ander's R6 unit. Much lighter rotor, great charging and the something like 16 starter rollers as opposed to the stock 3.
