« on: December 08, 2023, 04:17:35 AM »
G,day guys, Can anyone tell me where I can get the rubber cushions for the CB400 4 clutch basket. I know they are an integral  part of the basket and not available as a spare part from the usual Honda suppliers. I am at present at a full stop on my rebuild untlll I can replace the basket assembly (no longer in production) or new rubber cushions, which seem to be like Rocking horse xxxx !!!!!!

Just been reading the post, the maker is waiting for new viton sheet BUT be aware there are two different types and he only makes one of them, its explained in the post
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

You can get them from Japan, via Buyee or perhaps this site
  https://neokyo.com/en/product/yahoo/k1113906066
(someone tried this site recently & couldn't get through the transaction)

either that or 400fourbits is selling a decent basket https://www.400fourbits.co.uk/#engine

They were never available from Honda, you have to drill rivets out to get to them

So have you opened up your basket to determine if the Cush rubbers are petrified? They were not meant to be replaced as already noted. With 50+ years they are usually rock hard and cause a rattle noise at idle on the motor that is amplified if the carbs are not synced properly.
There was a guy in the Netherlands selling replacement ones for the big DOHC CB series, so there may be someone reproducing these.
Most just live with the clutch rattle. If you can physically move the outer ring gear then switching to another used basket is also an option.

Here's the email for the Netherlands guy who was doing the CB DOHC series and maybe able to help you with the CB400F rubbers. Wout is his name at: vanveld@hetnet.nl
