Interesting about the petcock...my gs1100 still has an oem petcock that also is very stiff to move...and I always assumed it was because?...yep, once riding season gets going, there is little reason to move from on
If it works good, it looks good...

Get a new one Made in Japan. The 4-hole rubber packing on the handle is not replaceable,AFAIK.
I replaced mine with one Made in Japan by TK and that same company also makes them for Suzuki as OEM parts. I purchased it on Ebay a couple years ago for my 83' GS750ES.
I'm curious if the one that comes on Sean's 82' 1100EZ model will fit Don's 81' 1100EX:same bolt pattern/size?
The 82 & 83 1100E's have a handle which is the only difference between the 81' and 82/83' that I know of..

That stiff petcock is a new K&L, supposedly also made in Japan. I'm still uncomfortable not being able to turn it on and off. I may make an adapter and install a Pingel.

And just for fun the 80' GS 1100E doesn't have a handle and the bolt spacing is smaller. There's a tiny screwdriver slot to switch to prime. Our 81' GS 1100E has a handle.

I took the 29's off today, I was looking at how to drop the needles, ordered pilot jets and then remembered to check the slide number. They are the 1.5's and probably won't ever get jetted right for the GS1100. The 2's allow more air through the part throttle range.
Just my luck, Orient express is out of 34 and 36 flat slides. I F'ed around too long.

I listed the 29's in the hi-performance section. I also found a set of new VM29 to cb750 carb manifolds.

Dynoman has the 36's for $50 more than Orient express but includes two sizes of jets and fuel lines.

I would have to check the boxes where we got them from but the Mikuni RS 34 and RS 36 carbs we bought for the 77' KZ 1000 and the 80' GS 1100E came set up for engine(stock), filtration and exhaust system(Delkevick). They asked us about it when we ordered them. Two other sets of jets were included, one leaner and one richer than the installed jets along with fuel line, clamps and vacuum lines
Both sets ran great right out of the box. These carbs ain't cheap but we couldn't be happier with the results.

I was going to rob pilot jets from a set of Kawasaki 26 Mikuni's but of course they are different. I ordered jets for the GS, everything in it now is grossly oversized and am going to remove the inline fuel filter and replace the line, that should cure the fuel delivery issue. I'll also test the petcock flow with my vacuum pump to be sure it's working and there was nothing left in the tank after the de-rust process.
I wrote down Greg Cope's jet recommendations for 29's on a GS, also have a set of 29's on my 836, I'll check the sizes on them also after it gets the AFR meter test.

I was digging in my big brother's toolbox and found a .22 bullet box full of large round mikuni main jets, it looks like 4 each of 95 through 125, in addition to the round container that I knew about.
No pilot jets though, fudge, but I didn't say fudge.

My jets got here, I dropped the pilots to 20 and the mains to 120, the air jet was already a size bigger (.10) like Greg Cope recommended. I got a way happier GS, what concerns me is how long did the PO's run it jetted that rich, and did he wash out the cylinder walls and rings. The performance will tell me a lot but the air/fuel ratios are a lot better, the richest I saw was 12-1 where it was as far as 8-1 before. I did see coasting with the throttle closed and idle as lean as 14-1.
This is with velocity stacks though, no word when my APE air filters may come.

Yes, on ebay Niche cycle has them listed for $77.50 each plus shipping, that price is a deal breaker at over $325 that's half the cost of a full set of new 36's.
I just now saw a set of real mikuni used ones that are cheaper by half. I could buy those and sell my 1.5's. break even deal.
Dang, I already spent that much buying manifold adapters for 29's on a cb750.

Has anyone had a dim taillight issue with the GS1100? I put an old LED in it to crutch it but it has low voltage at the rear wire plug-in. Just over 6V to the running light side of the dual filament bulb and 8V to the single element bulb.
Charging and battery are OK, voltage measurements are with the key on and engine off.

No but no charging issues came down to 40+ year old wiring. Sounds a bit like the same problem.

Charging looks good, and I'm sure the taillight gets brighter when it's running.
The bottom two fuses are 12V+ but the three above are all around 9 to 10V. That's with the engine off, the battery was reading 12.5 but it dropped quickly. I had left the O2 sensor plugged in for a while.
I put the Optima charger on it for a couple hours and will check again later. I cleaned and greased a couple plug-ins, my area if interest is the ignition switch, also I haven't been inside the headlight area yet. I see a fuse holder in there, that might be for the accessory circuit. One glass fuse was a short one like a Honda fuse. I swapped it for a long one.
I need to spend some time in the manual.

I got a few rides on it today. I'm liking it a bunch, jetted properly it runs really good. I do see the fat range at lower throttle openings where the 1.5 slides restrict the air a little.
From reserve, it took 3 gallons to top it off. It was a gas hog, hopefully it has rings left and stays as strong as it feels now.
