79 CB650 Valve Cover Gasket
« on: January 16, 2024, 09:54:41 AM »
Hi all, trying to install the valve cover gasket (long crazy spaghetti shaped gasket) and it keeps slipping out at different spots when trying to install it in the valve cover. any suggestions. i've warmed up the gasket in water but still feel like its too small or something. i've even taped it in with duct tape but when i slowly remove the tape it pops out again.

its called GASKET, CYLINDER HEADCOVER 12391-426-00

it came as part of a gasket kit i purchased from ebay. I'm guessing a crappy Chinese knockoff that not correct.

really getting frustrated.

Grease or contact adhesive in the groove, try doing a cbx 1000 one!

I use grease to position any tricky gaskets. Only a thin smear..

thank you bryanj.  contact cement worked great!  kind of rubbery so i'm sure gets smushed in there nicely when i torqued it down.

the gasket is a rubbery round vinyl feeling gasket....very difficult to install (think mine was fabricated too short)

heres a picture of it completed.  the engine was vapor honed if it looks too clean..ha..ha..
